I put a new piston in a super ez given to me. Wouldn’t run prior due to lack of compression. Got everything back together and fired right up but runs lean. Kinda makes sense that the old piston had burnt up... anyways anybody have any ideas? I have some new seals but really don’t have the Capability to pressure test. Kinda a lot of work to do seals out of a guess. I’ve done the obvious stuff during the rebuild like new fuel line, filter, carb kit, plug. I guess it Isn’t out of the question it’s the seals. Saw is 42 years old

How does it idle? There are a number of areas an air leak can occur.
One test that can normally show seals leaking is to tip the saw on it's side and upside down. If the idle rpm's change it's most likely a seal.
They aren't to bad to change.
The rubber in the seals can get hard over time.

Idles fast like an air leak. I’ll try turning it on it’s side later today. I guess that probably would indicate a seal.

The seals aren't hard to change. Clutch side requires the removal of the clutch and oil pump.
Flywheel side requires the removal of the flywheel and points box if the saw has a points ignition. You will have to reset the points gap.
Something you should gain some experience in if you are going to use old saws.

I always say to check the simplest thing first. In this case it'd be to check your idle screw setting & the needles settings.I've found saws that for some reason the previous owner had the idle speed screw jacked way too far in. The piston that was in it beforehand was most likely scored due to a lean situation caused by bad seals.Pulling one of these SEZ's apart isn't as bad as it sounds.New seals never hurt anything & you can get them fairly cheap if you shop around.I agree with fossil on this. Yeah this saw isn’t idling well. Running way too lean. Can’t really adjust the carb well either. So definelty points to a vacuum leak.

Would also be good to check the carb base gasket, they’ve been known to cause vacuum leaks
