Could a DM54 single ring piston be used in a 540 without any problems ? Anybody have any ideas on this. Thanks

Most likely you wouldn't have a problem. The DM54 was slower revving due to the limits on the actual blade RPM; a speed limiter in the coil helped achieve this, but I think the design of the piston was part of it as well. I believe the theory was that the single thick ring was more durable for the kind of loading a concrete saw had but it wasn't able to rev as high due to the thick ring design.
