I recently got an XL1 and it had the wrong bar on it. I replaced the bar with a Homelite bar and now the chain is rubbing the bar plates. The saw did have the S shaped spring on the bar studs Homelite part number 69966. I had to remove that to install the new bar. Now with the bar and chain installed the chain is rubbing the bar plates and the chain is trying to ride up out of the bar on the top. I believe that the rivers of the chain at what is doing the rubbing and making it ride up out of the groove. It also makes it very hard to spin the chain by hand even with light tension on the chain. The saw didn’t have the correct bar when I got it and I’m wondering if the plates might not be correct either. I have noticed in the IPL’s that there are many different part numbers for bar plates depending on the model of saw. Any help is appreciated. Also my Dad has a super EZ and next time I can get to his neck of the woods I’m going to try his bar, chain and bar plates on my saw and see if they make any difference.

If your saw has the 360 style plate on it (quite common in my experience), it will cause exactly what you have encountered. They fit and pretty much line up on the oil slot, but they are too tall for the narrow tail bars on the Super EZ. I'd try a true 67299 & 67300 plate...that should do the trick.

Most of the XL-1's I've seen came with a Windsor UXL mount bar. So did the XL-76's. Pretty tall bar tail on those bars.

Most of the Super EZ's and related in the US came with a really narrow tail bar. The UXL mount would work well with the 360 style plates.

I don't think so...as far as I know they were international saws only. That could explain the different bars being used.

This XL1 came out of Canada. I though that they weren’t sold in the US but you guys know better than I do. I got a couple of bar plates on order. Thanks Leon for the part numbers and having the best prices around.

You need to send it home!
Just kidding. Many saws ended up far away from home.

The UT number is 50159 and the serial number is T8100237 Thanks for the numbers ! *UT:50159 ( XL-1 Automatic ) SN:T8100237 .. manufactured in 1981 , UT# was last built in '89 This Homelite-Terry built model featured a rubber grip on the throttle handle , was automatic oiler only ( no manual oiler plunger ) and didn't have a decompression valve .

Thanks for the info, I had read the decoding serial number thread and I was assuming it was built in 81. The only thing this one does not have the rubber handle, and it doesn’t appear that it ever did, if it did at one time there is no evidence of it left on the saw. I’ll have to get some photos of the saw and post them. It is a really clean saw and appears to be very low hour.
