Part 2. Rowdy, I'm considering trying out the pump that you sent me the link to. The link says it's a vacuum fuel pump. How would I hook that up to the saw? Thanks KW

Thanks KW The pumps are made to operate off a pulse (supposedly) just like the original, I am not sure where they get that they are a vacuum pump from. On the outboards I used to convert there was a bolt that could be removed that went directly into the crankcase, I would fit a nipple on there and route a hose to the pump. If you have an automotive style vaccum/pressure gauge, that would pry be the easiest way to check for proper pulse to the pump.

I rigged a pump similar to that on a 4 stroke Briggs for a remote tank to a generator. I drilled a hole straight into the crankcase above the oil level and pointed down, threaded in a hose barb, worked fine. That is basically how the fuel pump in the 2 cycle carb is pulsed, straight off the crankcase.

Do I understand correctly that the pulse to the oiler would be similiar to the vacuum this pump needs? I could just hook up one side of the pump to the pulse line, one side to the oil tank and the top to the chain oiler? Or something like that depending what the instructions would show as the corresponding nipples? If so it sounds pretty simple right?

Let's start with, I am not intimately familiar with the setup on this saw. That said, I believe you could use the vacuum pulse line for the original pump to power the replacement. The tank and bar lines for the oil would be the same as the originals, yes. Heed the in/out arrows, the unmarked/center port would be the pulse line.

Gentlemen, while switching things over from the old tank assembly to the new tank assembly I found something that I think we've failed to address that might be significant to the oiler working properly - the vent! I'll try to pry out the bronze fitting on the old tank tomorrow to see if there's a duck bill in it & in what condition it's in.I'm assuming because of the age of the saw that it's black goo. Ed

Good call Ed, I hadn't thought of the vent being an issue. Let us know what you find out.

You are one busy guy working on saws Ed! I’m going to have to take notes on how many you got going, lol. I wondered about that vent too Ed. If I get to it before you I’ll LYK. Maybe Sunday. I’ve heard the sun may be making an appearance here in the Midwest. Otherwise I think I’m going to try the other set-up...

It's not the vent.:-(. I forgot that when I had it running before, I opened up the oil tank cap, and it didn't make any difference. I got the brass screen out, and replaced the duckbill anyway...nothing...
