Could someone just confirm for me that the crankcase screws part number 88044 are 1/4" AF socket size? My bi-hex 1/4" spanner is a very loose fit (I don't appear to have a 1/4" socket anywhere), and before I buy a better full hex long socket I just wanted to make sure. I have put a vernier across the head of one of them and it seems to measure as 1/4 inch, but better safe than sorry.... Thanks, Steve

You are correct, they have a 1/4" head.

I have a 1/4" 6 point socket that came with a fair amount of chamfer in the business end. It always wanted to slip if it was not perfectly perpendicular to the screw head. I took it to the grinder and ground the end flat to remove the chamfer and make the inside end very sharp. I touch it up now and then, works great.

Many thanks for that pointer. I did the same for a very large socket used for taking off a Ducati clutch centre nut - mind you that is torqued up to 140 ft/lb and needed my son hanging on a length of pole to move it! I will do the same on the 1/4" socket when it arrives as suggested - those hex heads sure are tiny and I don't want to butcher one by using an ill fitting socket.
Cheers, Steve
