I bought this little cream puff (yeah, another cream puff) today on Ebay for a very good price (IMO).I wouldn't doubt it has the original bar & chain. The saw looks to have very little use & was well taken care of.I'm assuming because of it's age that it'll need a new fuel line & a carb rebuild. It looks like I've got enough project saws to keep me going for a couple of months now.Lol Ed
Edit:The price that shows what it sold for is not correct, that was the original asking price.

I got the XL in the mail today & went through it right away.It doesn't have any spark,so I tried a different plug, still no spark.I disconnected the switch & still no spark.I didn't notice this the first time I took the recoil off,but someone was in that saw - it's spotless in there,no oil or sawdust anywhere.I popped the flywheel off to have a look at the points & found they weren't breaking very much if at all.I'll take the points out & clean them up tomorrow, put them back in & gap them to .015. The fuel line was broken in between the carb & the fuel tank,so a new line & filter is in it's future too.I popped the cover off the carb to have a look at the fuel pump diaphragm & it wasn't pretty. The cover was stuck as if it was glued on & the pump diaphragm was totally shot.It has a Tilly carb in it which surprised me,so it'll get a rebuild kit in the near future as well. The smell of the old rancid fuel is horrendous. It seems that all of the saws I get from this seller are that way.The only thing missing that I could see was the oiler button. Ed Edit:I'm having a problem finding the correct IPL for this saw.All the XL's I see are top handle saws.My XL is the older version that was made for only 1 yr.UT10491,Ser.# T78D3617

I cleaned & gapped the points today on the XL,they were burnt black.I put it back together & I still didn't have spark.I was taking the coil off for testing it & found that the bottom mounting screw was loose, also one of the laminations was bent up.Like I said earlier, someone was in this saw but didn't know what they were doing. The coil tested a hair over 9,000 ohms on the primary & 6940 ohms on the secondary.I'll put it back on the saw & set the air gap & see what happens. It could be possible that the condenser is shot. That is the correct condenser for the Wico ignition.

I got spark on the XL today.I pulled the flywheel again to check the points again & found that they were off by a couple thousandths, but the saw should've still had spark.I found another condenser that I bought off Ebay last spring for a SXL.The #'s on the condenser were a match,so I swapped it out.I put the saw back together & surprisingly the saw now has spark.I put some fuel in the plug hole & the carb & the saw fired up.Next on the to do list is rebuild the carb. OK,the carb has been rebuilt.I've never seen a carb in such rough shape as this one was.I had to really work at prying off the covers. The pump gasket was adhered to the carb body something terrible. Then the metering lever wouldn't move the needle. The spring was stuck to the lever like it was glued there,so was the needle.I got it all apart & cleaned up,but I have no idea if it'll work.I probably should've let it soak in Seafoam overnight. This saw is proving to be quite the challenge.I made the carb mounting gasket & got set to re-install the carb when I noticed that the carb spacer had a piece missing from it.I found it laying right there in the air box.Luckily I had another one on hand from my XL-400 that's the same one.The carb is in & the saw is ready to try to fire up,I just need to mix some fuel tomorrow & see what happens.
