I have an older 925 with a three piece ignition. It had great spark but I noticed that the wires between the 3 ignition pieces have numerous bare areas and in some places are very worn. Is it possible to just replace this with a one piece ignition from a later 925? I happen to have one in the barn.

I think that should work. I think you have to use the flywheel from the other saw also. Dan

It also looks like the bolt pattern is a little different with the new coil. Not sure that it will work on the bracket everything is secured too

I believe you can also use the bracket from the donor saw. it should bolt under the flywheel.

To convert to electronic ignition you'll need the back-plate, flywheel and module/coil.
The C.D.I. is a great system, I'd repair the wiring.

I agree with repairing the wiring if possible. You can always convert later if needed. Dan

I've had pretty good luck using heat shrink tubing on these wires along with good silicone where the wires enter the modules.

The heat shrink tubing is a really good idea. Didn’t think of that. I guess that would work. The copper looks a bit frayed and fragile I guess is my main concern. It’s too bad there really isn’t a way just to attach new wires.

Yeah, the damned wires are certainly the weak point of the system. But the silicone will stabilize them at the module and prevent vibration from making them worse.

Can an XL 98 3 piece ignition be used in a 3 piece 925? They look exactly the same...
