Well y'all, I need your help. I have a good friend that owns 2 8800's in need of intake boots. He disassembled one saw and when he compared his new boot to the old one, found they were different. Granted, I haven't seen the parts myself yet, but after doing some digging in the IPL's and online, I believe I can see what he's describing.
All the IPL's, including the 540 list, show the 97263-2 boot with a large rectangular flange on the forward end that attaches to the cylinder. The flange depicted in the artwork of the IPL's is consistent with what my friend described to me. He described his service part as having only a small round flange on the forward end. I pulled one up on Ebay and the picture of that part looked like what he described. He questioned if this part would work on his saw. I'm not sure what to tell him and I don't know when I'll be able to get there to see it.
Through my research, I also found reference to some folks using an 064 Stihl boot, which has a similar small round flange on the cylinder end. It was also mentioned that the Stihl boot must be trimmed somewhat to fit.
I feel like an idiot because I actually went through one of these 2 saws several years ago, maybe pushing 20 years ago now, but I don't recall any details about the intake boot. I know I had to have dealt with it because I installed a new piston and cylinder. I don't recall if we used the old boot or a new one.
Does anyone here have any experience with this intake boot?
