Ever since I got my C71 going back in July I've wanted to get either a C9 or C91.I've been watching Ebay & my local CL diligently for the last couple months now & have not had much luck.I don't want to spend an arm & a leg to get one. There's one on Ebay now for $120 or MO,& it has no spark.I don't think it's worth more than $50 to be honest. There was another seller who had the saws he had & listed them as every C series model there was & I could clearly see on the saw that it was a C72 (or C71,I don't remember which). If anyone here on the forum knows where I can pick one up at a reasonable price it'd be greatly appreciated. Finding a decent C series with a decent piston/cylinder can be a challenge. I guess it's really what you are willing to pay for one...provided you are confident as to what you are actually buying. I've noticed that online sellers are asking some pretty high prices for the C series lately. Sent you a PM.

Seems like the price of the C-Series can vary greatly.
I paid $40 for my C-91 which also didn't have spark. I figure it cost me right about $80 to get it running.
$120 doesn't seem too outlandish based on what I've seen but I'd hold out for something a little cheaper myself.

I know this is an old thread, but I figured on keeping this one going rather than start another in the same category. I found this sorry looking C9 on Ebay today from a seller that I've purchased from previously. The rear throttle handle is broke, but I figured that's not a problem because I've got a good C5 handle that'll work. Now it gets a little more interesting as in the front of the saw it looks like there's a hole in the tank cover.Still not a problem as I have a tank cover from the C5.The one problem that I'm concerned about is just in front of the recoil it looks as if there's a hole in the housing & don't really know if this hole leads directly into the fuel tank,or if there's an air gap in between.I think the real deal breaker is that it's missing the drivecase cover & the asking price of the saw of $99 + $38 shipping. In my opinion, that's a $25 parts saw at best. I'll check my stash. I think I have one much better than that. I'll pm you if I find something later.

I was thinking the same thing as far as what it's worth as a parts saw - $25.I greatly appreciate you looking in your stash for a saw for me. I got the front tank cover off my seized C5,getting the rest of the housing off is proving to be quite challenging.

I did manage to get the rest of the fuel tank housing apart.I also started working on getting the cylinder off the piston.I got it about halfway off & it seems that's all the further I can get it to go.Funny thing - I put a 50/50 mix of acetone & ATF in the cylinder 6 mo.ago & it was still there today.Lol It didn't do a damn thing for unseizing the engine. I hate to state the obvious, but that engine is likely seized from no oil...corrosion or carbon would have worked in that amount of time!

You may be right Leon.I was told that the saw was left sitting outside for "a couple yrs." When I started taking the saw apart last summer the plug was only screwed in a couple of threads & there was a wasp nest on the cylinder. The oil & sawdust had turned to an oily dirt that had to be scraped off the saw's housing. It took me over 30 mins.to pry the drivecase cover off the saw without breaking it.I'd say the saw sat outside for at least 10 -15 yrs.I put the cylinder & piston in the freezer to possibly help aid in the removal of the cylinder. It's about half off at this point. Ed, I'm patient and wait till I find one cheap. I'm kicking my self because I passed one up for $5, because it was froze up. They threw it in a pile of scrap that they sold at the end of the auction. Then I got my C71 that was froze. I did the acetone/ATF on it and it broke loose, and after a few months the rings loosened up and the rascal runs. I'll never pass up another nice saw because it's froze. I usually don't go as high as $50 unless it's running and big. You got the big part. I tell ya. I'm learning that saws are very regional as to availability and price. C series saws are pretty common here. I told the story of the running C5 and 330 my cousin got for a $1. I got my C51 I'm working on now for $5. Now, I bought my last Super 1050 at the same sale as the C5 and paid $150. But it had new lines, filters and ran great. That's the most I've ever paid for a used saw. Good luck , a C9 is on my very short list.

The first collectible saw I got was a C-51. Over the last 12 years, I've been fortunate to acquire one of every C series models made. I don't have any gear driven C's (I'm skeptical if they were produced or if it was just an add on option). I also have a XP-1020 and a super 2100 automatic. You are correct that saws are very regional. C-5s and 51s are fairly common here but the bigger ones don't turn up very often. I never turn down a cheap priced C series any more just because of the parts potential!

Well I might as well tell everyone now that Ron sold me a C9 he had along with a few extras,& for what I'd call a more than reasonable price.(that's between Ron & me) I've found that trying to find a cylinder for a C9/C91 is almost impossible.I've seen the C91's on Feebay go for over $200 or a little less & you don't know what you're getting.Ron was uop front with me & told me right out that the cylinder & piston were toast,& he was kind enough to throw in a good P&C.If another C9 or C91 comes along for a good price I'll grab that too, preferably a C91.I'm not so lucky to have an auction barn where I can go to buy saws,it's either Feebay,CL,AS,or here,or my local saw shop, but he's about done with all the old Homies.
