I think its been known for some time that the longer guide bars are getting more and more scarce for the Homelites. What are some bars that might be suitable replacements or some bars some of you may be running that are 24" and above. I've seen some mention of some 27" and 28" bars. Are these original Homelite bars I wonder? I know Oregon and lil red barn have some new bars out there but Oregon, from what I understand in the last year, has stopped producing the D196 mount and some sellers have responded by increasing the price quite a bit. The F014 mount has been discontinued a long time. Just thought I would pry for some ideas about maybe possible modifications that would open the selection of bars somewhat.

I have taken D176 mounts and milled the bar stud slot from 5/16 to 3/8.

I’ve read in numerous places where the large stihl mount modified relatively easy but other than to say large stihl mount no one ever says what mount it is

It's very easy to turn a large Husky mount D009 bar into a D096/D196 mount by filing the adjuster holes up into the bar channel. All you need is a chain file. If you need stud spacers the Windsor "S" clips will work or I generally use 3 coils nipped off a 3/8" OD extension spring which are 5/16" ID.
