Picked up a pretty rough-looking saw for a decent price on eBay that was billed as a 925. All the letter was worn away and some of the parts have been replaced or painted. When I got it in I discovered that the choke was a flip rod on the left side of the airbox and threads for a check valve inside as well. The only IPL I can find that shows that choke config is the XL-913. Seems to be one of the least written about saws in the line if I’m right about the model. Anybody know anything about 913?

The XL-913M had a unique L-ring (Dykes) piston set-up. Pull the muffler and inspect to confirm an XL-913M. Here's a link to a thread with more information and links. houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/6010/xl-913m-odd-pistonsADDED LINK: Pictures of a couple XL-913's www.chainsawcollectors.se/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=21532

You’re right. That’s the one and no decomp valve.

The dang paint job sure doesn't help with the ID! But I've gone through the IPL's and that may be an XL-870 or XL-875. Some of those saws used that style of choke with the manual oiler on the left side, like your saw. The full wrap handle fits that era of saw as well.
I think 5terrysupersaws suggestion is best; pull the muffler and see what piston rings are in there.

Posting some pics for Wes of his piston. It looks like a 925 thin ring to me...

I agree 925 thin ring. It’s possible someone at one time changed the air box and carburetor from another model, which would explain the choke lever.
