A friend of mine found an old 23a generator at his uncle's place. Sounds like it is in pretty good shape and was running a couple years ago. It is pre Textron so I assume it's 40's or real early 50's era. The guy is ready to sell but wants me to make an offer on it. I have no idea what to offer. I usually start on the way cheap side but I don't want to offend this guy. Does anybody have an idea how much I should offer? Any input is appreciated.

You can only decide for yourself what it is worth to you. Include in your deliberations what it will cost to make it run or look good or do what you want it to do.
I am not certain but I believe the model number might not tell you exactly what voltage and wattage the machine is so that would be a concern. The old gens were made in 6/12/18/110/220 volts, single and 3 phase versions.
Make him an offer you can live with, and be happy to have the Homelite. :{)

Thanks. I know pricing is all over the place. Saw a couple on eBay for $500-$700. I don't want it that bad. We'll see what happens.

The old gens were made in 6/12/18/110/220 volts That should be 28 volts, not 18, sorry.
