I am looking for piston rings for a Homelite 540 chainsaw (part #12659-A), or piston assembly (A-00790). I don't know if 8800 rings and piston are the same but if you have an 8800 piston and pin assembly that would work.

Found the 8800 part #'s. Piston rings=02625, piston & pin assembly=A028241B. I also am looking for crank bearings for 540/8800, part #'s 94621(540) and 94621A(8800). Thanks, Rob

The piston rings are the same number, one just has an "A" added to the part number. I know the 8800 was a totally different desighn cylinder than the 540. The 540 is an open port desighn and the 8800 is a closed port desighn. Most people want the 8800 because it offered a little more performance. A guy on YouTube said he tried to use 8800 parts on a 540 and they did not work without modifying a lot of stuff. Does anybody know if there is a aftermarket piston with rings that will fit a 540?

540’s used thin piston rings, 8800’s used thick piston rings.

Although Homelite 540’s and 8800’s were the last of Homelite’s big cc saws, parts for these can be the toughest to find. I don’t know of any aftermarket parts for these.

540’s used thin piston rings, 8800’s used thick piston rings. I am so sorry, I looked at ring part numbers on both the 540 and 8800 and you are totally right. they are completely different. my apologies. I have been looking for 54mm thin rings all morning and nothing comes up. I wish I had a Husqvarna 288 piston to compare to the Homelite 540 just to see if piston pin diameter is the same and if the pin height in relation to the top of the piston is the same. there has to be something out there that might work. Maybe a Stihl 066. I don't have these other saws to compare pistons. A homelite 545 is 54mm but I don't know what it looks like or anything. I would not have believed this 540 project would be this big of a pain to get engine parts for.

540’s and the 650/Super 650 use the same rings. This is one of the reasons why they are hard to get.

A Homelite 545 is a ghost, no one owns one, only a few claim they seen one, no ones seen one for sale.

You might want to try Bob Johnson in Maryland,N.Y.I bought a piston kit for my 540 from him 1 1/2 yrs.ago.IO think I got the last one he has at the time, but he's constantly buying out distributorships,so he might've replenished his stock. Tere's a guy that chainsawlady knew about in N.M.who custom made rings.I'll see if I can find that thread here & edit this post & add it on. Ed Found it: As an addendum to the list above there is a gentleman who custom makes rings for Homelite saws. His name is BjornBaal,mjmmaachineworx@gmail.com.The former supplier is Frank Bowman 1211 N.Allen Ave.,Farmington,N.M.87401-0696,ringmaster46@msn.com phone # 505-327-0696.Joyce asked me to pass this info along & share it with everyone here.

Thanks for the possible suppliers. I have been checking to see what saws were 54mm with the thin rings. I might have found something that will work but won't know till it gets to me. The Jonsered 920 was 54mm and original rings look like they might be thin rings. I ordered a set to see if it might work. If it won't work I guess I will have to make it a point to get a Jonsered 920 Super. Seems like a good excuse to me

A guy off of Arboristsite reached out to me and had some NOS 540 rings. It's funny though because he is a Poulan fan. I am a fan of a lot of old brands, I don't discriminate. Anyway thanks everyone for the help even if I got it from another site.
