The saw is 40 years old it’s not a mixed gas issue.Yes obviously I need to tear it down before I order anything but it’s a good idea to start looking early since I also checked eBay and saw nothing. UT=10415 serial#5189T190 82cc.

Disassemble and check cylinder before looking for one. They can usually be saved unless severe scoring.

So after disassembly the piston and rings have 4 pretty good grooves. Explains the lack of compression. The cylinder appears to be ok with one light scuff area. Any suggestions on where I can get a nos piston assembly? I see the aftermarket ones for like$35. Anybody have any experience with those? Performance saw I think they are. I’d like to have a NOS setup but if cost prohibitive I guess I could live with the aftermarket is decent quality

If Leon & Joyce don't have the piston kit,you can call Bob Johnson. He has a vast supply of Homelite parts & he might just have an OEM kit.His # - 607-638-9297,Maryland,N.Y. Ed

He has some videos detailing the whole process. The a/m piston worked well. EDIT; A link to the disassembly video of the SXL-925 www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJWJyiwqSVA

I got around to getting a piston and installing. I did learn that it appears the piston pin apparently needs to be installed with the flat end facing the muffler? The end with the hole facing the intake. I learned this after I put the saw back together. Anybody know of this is a big deal or not? Not really a problem to put it in the other way but don’t want to waste time either. It seems like it wouldn’t matter to me.

The problem you could have is carbon build up inside the open end and the carbon breaking free and scoring the piston. Also could expose the pin bearing to increased heat from combustion.
