I have determined i have a problem and should seek professional help. Picked up a "running" 330 because it had a bar on it that i wanted for for one of my yellow saws because it was cheaper than buying just a bar off of feebay. but... it does "run". It races on full choke and throttle lock so im going to work on the assumption the intake boot is cooked so i will be probably putting an ebay boot on it. all the other lines look to be in good shape so they can stay for now. I also have the filter for it which is a nice bonus but i think there is some rubber or foam pieces missing as i don't see how it can seal and keep the dirt out. will post pictures tomorrow but for now advice on tear down would be helpful

I'm with you on this one Brennan.I need some advice on the 330 tear down too.I watched a tear down video that Leon made & I'm sorry to have to say that it wasn't very helpful because the camera was out of frame.(sorry Leon) I suppose like everything else I do chainsaw-wise will be by trial & erropr. Alright the saw has been torn down and the guide has been posted. Just finished cleaning and ordering parts and man is it nice to work on a clean saw. Unfortunately some paint was lost during the process due to oil and gas exposure. I do have one question, what is the purpose of this hole on the bottom of the air intake and is there supposed to be some sort of foam on it to cover it and filter

I could be wrong on this, but I believe it's a drain hole for carb spit back.On the XL-12 series & others there was a cotter pin in it to prevent dust from coming in. Ed

I’ve seen them in the airbox before but this is actually under the reeds on the way into the crank area. That’s why I’m perplexed, it seems to just be an air leak and a hole for dust to get in

That hole was put there by Homelite on purpose. Read memo posted. It seems like a cheap fix for a design problem. Early 330’s had many problems and this was just one of them.

Interesting, I had kind of figured I’d was some sort of drain but when looking at the angle when the saw was sitting it didn’t seem like it was a problem in that spot. Thank for the info Undee

Yeah they all had that hole and since it was a controlled air leak, it could be adjusted out. Of course, that didn't do anything about the dust that was being sucked in. You'd of thought that Homelite could have redesigned that intake port to minimize puddling. That flat bottom in the area of the hole just doesn't look like much thought was put into it, but hey, I'm no engineer!

Well I got the saw all back together and got it to pop once on full choke and throttle lock but after I took the choke off and went to start the saw flooded out and I haven’t gotten a pop since. I have gas out the exhaust so I’m pointing a finger at the carb. Currently assembled as such (don’t mind the fact the end plates are on the wrong end, noticed it after everything was cleaned up) Metering lever is set flush across the face as per dams instructions fig A www.zamacarb.com/assets/images/techsupport/AdjMeteringHeight.pdfIt does seem however that when I put the weighted side together it’s preloading the needle open so maybe the wrong gasket set was installed by the previous repairer. I’m not sure so advice is appreciated.

I may also have a leaky reed as I seem to be getting a lot of air back through the carburetor when turning over
