If you don't know the story behind this saw from my other posts,here's a short history.About a month or 6 weeks ago I got a phone call from my local saw shop telling me he had this "complete saw in running condition".I went to see it the next day & found the engine to be seized terribly.The oiler didn't work (I've since got that working),& it was missing the throttle lock assembly.The chain was seized & it took me over 30 min.to get the drive case cover off.The previous owner had the plug loose & left it outside for who knows how long. I've since bought another C5 & have been using the original seized saw for parts & as a reference saw.Since the 2nd saw is in need of crank seals I figured the seized saw would be ther perfect practice saw.I managed to get the flywheel off & te coil & points assembly too.That took care of the FW side.The clutch side is a different story.I've got the drum off,but that's as far as I could get.I suppose I could put some eat to it to see if the clutch will break loose,but I don't want to melt the seal out either.I need the practice in pulling it out.Rigt now I've got a generous supply of PB Blaster on it soaking.Anyone got any other ideas? Ed

Left hand threads. Use a breaker bar.

Use a breaker bar on what?I already have the nut off.I need to get the clutch itself to break loose. Ed

The clutch is threaded on the shaft, left hand threads. The nut you removed would be holding the drum on. Should be a couple of holes for the clutch removal tool to fit in. Use a breaker bar with that if you have that style tool. There are numerous tools to use there is also a thread here about those different tools

Yeah,I'm waiting on a clutch removal tool (2 pin) from Ebay.I don't have any drift pins small enough to fit in those holes on the clutch to put a piece of flat stock in between to turm the clutch off. Ed

This clutch does NOT screw off the crankshaft.I removed the spring & the shoes (3) & I can clearly see there are 2 keys & 2 spacers (shims) that hold the clutch on.I can't get onto the spider with a puller.I heated it & beat it with a drift pin & hammer & used PB Blaster generously all to no avail.I think the only way that spider is coming off is by breaking it off. Ed

You must have a early C-5. You can try making a puller that will fit. Another option is to cut it off, make 2 cuts down towards the crank to weaken it and snap it off. Never did this on a saw but on other things, (industrial)
