Serial numbers are used to decode the date of manufacture, all info at: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/6140/figuring-out-when-homelite-builtThe 550 to get you started: *UT:10458-4 ( 550 ) SN:603470112 .. DOM: Friday, December 12th, 1980, unit 112, UT# last built in '82

"H" is the assembly line, "S" is the letter code for the year built. *UT:10045-F ( SXL-Old Blue ) SN:HS0661038 ..assembly line H, S=1997, day 66=Friday, March 7th, unit 1038 built that day. UT# was last built in 1998.

You guys are a wealth of knowlege, I really thought Old Blue was older than that. Thanks again The older Super XL's didn't have UT#'s. Somebody may correct me but I'm pretty sure the original Blue Super XL's were in manufacture a decade before UT #'s came around. If it's one that says "old blue" on it, it's kind of a modern commemorative version of the real "Old Blue".
