Hello again! I'm looking for information about bars from various mfg's that would fit the C series saws. I've tried to use the "finders" on Oregon and Carltons website with no luck. I'd like to go to 24" - 28" in .404. Any and all info is appreciated 👍

I've had good luck with Archer bars & chains & they can be bought on Ebay fairly cheap, but they only make them up to 24 in. Ed

I think Randy is too expensive for everyone.Lol I bought this 24 in.B&C for my XL923 & it worked great.I'm pretty sure it'll work on your C series saw too.

If I'm not mistaken (which I very well may be), the SXL-923 should use the same D096/D196 mount as the SXL series. The C-series, on the other hand, I believe use the F014 mount. Although you may be able to "make it work", I do not believe the two are interchangeable.

This is a D196 on top of a F014. See pic. According to this memo, a D196 could be used instead of a F014 on Homelite direct drives, of course this was with Homelite bars, other brands may or may not work.

You are correct Rowdy in the mount patterns of the saws, but I've found that the D176 will work on the XL-923.I did quite a bit of research on it before I bought it & communicated with the sales rep from Archer. Now for the C series saws,I'm still reserarching, but at this point the D176 looks identical to the F014 mount.I have an Oregon book here from 2017 & it doesn't even have the F014 mount pattern in it,so I have to go onto Acres' site to see what that pattern looks like, then look at the D176 mount pattern in the Oregon book & look at the Archer 240RNDD176 bar on Ebay to get a comparison.Whew.At this point,I'm not 100% sure yet,but I'm thinking that the D176 will work on the C series saws, but only if they're set up to run 3/8 pitch.A lot of the C series saws ran .404 pitch. We used to have several guys around here still running C Series saws for everyday cutting chores not that many years ago. I know some of them had the Homelite G5 bar on them. I don't recall the TSB shown above and don't recall if we even went through the bar shim mods or not. Seems like the modern G5 bar pattern with the large rectangular adjustment pin holes was a direct bolt on but I could be wrong. If not, the mods aren't tough, just turn the adjustment pin over and grind a bit off of the inner shim.

Interesting, I'll have to look in my Oregon book when I get home and see if it lists the D176 mount, I have not previously heard of that one but would be great if it would fit the C-series!
Also interesting about the G5 bar, potentially a viable option.

The D176 mount I’m fairly certain fits a 5/16 bar stud. This will not work on a c-series as it has 3/8 stud. The D176 shows to have an 8mm slot where the F014 would have a 9.5mm slot. I suppose you could open the slot up but you would need to be precise in doing so. The G5 would be a much better option or the Carlton bar listed above. The D196 will also fit a c-series. There is a slight difference but it will work. I have numerous c-series saws and super XL series the bars have been pretty much interchangeable. I had one older c-7 that I had to turn the bar adjuster over like described in the memos under provided.

John is right, the D176 won't fit a C-series without careful modification.

I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong & I'm definitely wrong about the D176 fitting on a C series saw.I had a talk with Bob Johnson today & he verified what John & Leon & others have said.I don't know where I got the idea that it would fit.My apologies guys. Ed
