I would be interested in knowing the final cost of having that cylinder repaired. If can be done reasonably and it work properly with the correct clearances, they could be in for a surge in business lol

It seems to me that when I checked with US Chrome about 1 1/2 yrs.ago they were talking in the $200-$250 range for replating a cylinder.Kinda pricey IMO,but when you're all done you have a brand new cylinder. Gonup, did you check with Buford (Ray) Parrish? He had some new & used cylinders for the XP series saws.I picked up a nice used cylinder for an XP-1000 for $75 from him just about a yr.ago.If I remember correctly the XP series saws were all 100cc & they might all take the same cylinder.Someone correct me if I'm wrong.I know there was an air tube that was on some cylinders that could be plugged off if your saw didn't require it.I'd hate to see you spend money that you didn't have to. US chrome wants $210.00 but they don't know about the little chip and that is the lowest price on the list. I was going to ask them if the replating process fills in little nooks and crannies and do they need my piston or just the bore diameter. How do I contact Buford (Ray) Parish? The have an order form to fill out with all the prices on it. They will probably ask you for photos. Here is the link. www.usnicom.com/plating/pricing

Worst case scenario would be if the chips/craters/damage are deep enough to require welding. Process; Strip, Weld, Bore, Nicom, Hone .. $ 276 + shipping A NEW piston is required to be sent along with the cylinder .. to enable precise fitment of piston to cylinder bore.

I'm just curious as to which route you took with the cylinder situation?

I bought the one from Parish implement who got it from his friend in NY. It had the nipple on it for the older 1050 and the mounting holes had to be enlarged. In the future I will call Bob Kennedy first.

I finally got to cut some wood with this saw. What a beast.. This is the loudest saw I have ever used. I had to stop half way through my first cut to put on hearing protection. I then made 10 cuts through an 18 inch oak. Saw doesn't even slow down. I knew the muffler had a lot of miles on it and some small holes but I didn't expect it to be so loud. I ordered a new housing and baffle from Leon. I read that the muffler cover is hard to find. Does anyone have a home made replacement for the cover?
