I have been trying to start it but engine compression is just too low. I took it apart and the cylinder is a little rough above the exhaust port. The piston looks good. I think it needs a hone and new rings. Is there a corresponding chainsaw that used the same cylinder, piston and bore? I can't find any info on the web. The number on the cylinder is 71070-D, I think the whole assembly is 71051-h, but not entirely sure. The piston is worn but not severely scored and runs about 60.4mm. I would really like to get the old pump running. Thanks

I read in my searches on the web somewhere that The Chainsaw Lady visits this web site, and that she may even have the rings I need, because she once had a homelite dealership. Hopefully she comes across this post, but what better place to find info about my Homelite pump than from House of Homelite. I just hope House of Homelite is active.

I’ll get you parts numbers and a parts list for your pump this weekend. We are still very active but my daughter passed away recently so I haven’t posted as much.

undee70ss, I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter, I wish there was something I could say other than you have my heartfelt sympathy.
Thanks, for the welcome, I've collected some chainsaws over the years, My 1st chainsaw was a homelite 330. I still have it, but it will never run again as it blew out the spark plug and stripped the threads. I also have an xL100 that my son took all apart because it won't run. It had low compression too. I would really like to see this pump running again. Besides the fact it looks interesting, I have a use for it.
Appreciate the help, Greg

Thanks to undee, the part # for the rings is 71159. It went to a 20mds homelite chainsaw too. So if I can find the rings, I'll have the cylinder honed. Anyone with a lead on rings, your response will be appreciated. If and when I get it running I'll post a video of it here.

I'm having the cylinder honed at Napa. Gotta be positive about getting the rings. No negative vibs.

Would this model use a chromed cylinder? If so I think they generally advise against honing. That said I've seen it done with pretty good results. Not sure if this particular model would have had that though, as my knowledge of cylinders is pretty limited.

Did they do that in the late 50's? I don't think this one is. Above the exhaust ports it isn't chrome if it ever was. I will see if I can find out. The cylinder is out of my hands right now. Thanks
and thanks for the link supersaws. I'll check that out!

The rings have been bought from Leons. Things are looking up! You're welcome for the link. Check your order, Leon showed 4 in stock previously..now showing 3. IPL indicates 2 rings are needed.

I sent them an email. I re-read the listing. I thought I was getting what I needed for 1 piston, but it now looks like I'm getting 1 ring. I probably screwed up.

Everything was straightened out with getting the rings as I ordered another one and he graciously refunded the shipping on it. The pump is now reassembled. I did get the cylinder honed which improved the bore but many imperfections remained and couldn't be honed further especially over the exhaust port. Compression has improved. The problem right now is I hurt my back when pull starting a ditch witch. It happened to back fire as I was pulling it and now after a week I'm improving slowly. I'm not afraid of a similar occurrence with the homelite, I tried a few pulls, but I'm not up to giving it the required effort yet.
