I'm wondering if a Ignition Module would work in a C series Homelite. I've installed one in a C52, but it runs erratically, like a car that's missing. Not sure if I've installed it right or not. Also, I've never ran this saw before, when I got it, it had no spark until I installed the chip module. Thanks

Did you disconnect the points wire from the coil?If not the saws's timing will be way off because it's getting mixed signals from the points & the chip as to when it should fire. Ed

Yes, important to make sure points are disconnected. Don't have to remove just be sure to unhook.
I haven't personally ran a chip but I have read mixed reviews. Many report hard starting due to advanced timing, missing as you report, and the units outright dying occasionally.
Is it possible to try the chip in another saw? That would tell you pretty quick if its the chip or the saw thats the problem. If the chips new I'd be inclined to just exchange it.

Well, Guess I have to back in to check. Almost sure I didn't, but I did disconnect the condenser and remove it, is that a no no?

Yep, cleaned the points and put in another condenser off a C52 that had spark, I was going to put that whole assembly in but busted the coil.

Someone else mounted a Nova II module on top of the coil and complained it kept failing. I put one on a Super 1050 and mounted it out by the air box, to a small screw hole that was already there, and it's run fine for 10+ years. I think the other person that had all of the failures said the instructions for his module said not to mount it too close to the coil, but he couldn't find a better place. My Nova II had minimal instructions, like a pic of the unit and 2 wires. Found it, here's a pic of where I mounted my module.
