Hi Friends, So my 360 project has finally made it to the running stage (I think this will be my first and last one of these). So I didn't expect this but this saw has a rev limiting coil module on it; it tops out about 9500 rpm. Is this model suppost to have a limiter on it? Everything I've read and videos I've watch don't show a limiter. I haven't been able to cut with it yet so I don't know how it's going to perform. Thanks. Steve

It’s not supposed to have a rev limiter. What color is the module?

Steve If the module is tan in color it may be the #46124-A module for a DM-50 cut-off saw..which is electronically governed to 10000 rpm, but could be used ( In Theory ) in place of #12669 module(black) on the 360.

Yes, Undee's right on. Adding to what 5terrysupersaws said, there's also the blue one used on the 450 that's limited. Don't know it's rpm, but it and the tan one are both limited where the black one ain't. Every 350/360 I ever saw had the black one, and every IPL I ever saws showed the 12669 one which is the black one.

Hi Guys, it's a tan one, Just like the one i have for a DM-50. I guess that explains that. Somewhere along the line the original one must of STB and got replaced with this one. hopefully it will still perform well. Thanks.

The 450's perform fine with the limited module. I can tell you though that I've seen a 360 turn 14,000+ on an electronic tach. And that was an old beater saw with a 20" hard tip bar. If you decide to look for a black one, you would be pretty safe going with a used one as they rarely go bad.

Because right now this saw is not performing well, it's running on the limiter. Perhaps I need to increase the load with a more aggressive chain grind? Or something???

The 450 and DM-50’s did not use the same module.

I would think that a saw with a 11,000 no load RPM speed would not be turning upwards of 9,500 under load but I could be wrong. I wonder if it'd be possible to fit a tiny tach or similar to monitor the RPM?

The 450 IPL's show the module as part #70709 which may be the blue limited one.. as stated by lesorubcheek above. Suggest replacing the tan module with the black unlimited module #12669 A very reliable source has a good, tested, used one for forty bucks .. part #U2209

The 450 and DM-50’s did not use the same module. Well that explains why the 450 doesn't have a problem with a rev limiter, obviously it must be set higher than a DM-50. This tan one is the same as a spare one I have from a DM-50, both topped out about 9500 with no load. While in the cut, it's bouncing off the limiter.

I'd probably go that route first.
