Did pretty good this morning. Stopped at an old saw shop in WV. Got another Super 1050, a Super XL925, a 450, and a blue AS. Using Wi-Fi at restaurant so you have to wait till tomorrow for pics.

Here they are. He gave me the Blue EZ, the Super XL 925, and the 450 for $10 each. He said another guy offered him $50 for the Super 1050 but never came back, so I offered him $40 for it and he took the money. Then said he would have given that one to me for $10 too, but it was too late the money was in his pocket. The 1050 has a Blue air box and handle on it like a C5, cranks over with felt compression, and has a full wrap handle. The Super XL 925 has made in St Claire on it. All I can see is the word Super real faint on the side. It has a ut number, I'm going to run out and get it. 450 UT # 104264 Serial 602810037. 925 UT 10415B, Serial TD09 00326.

I was on my hunting property clearing my road to get a 40X12 building up there, to use as a bunk house. I cut down 10-12 trees about 10 " diameter and then just took the truck and drug the whole trees into the field. Later when I get the loader up there I'll roll them over the hill. I didn't realize how dry it is up there. After I drug the first tree into the field the dust cloud was so big I couldn't see the drive. I kept going till diner, trying to get as much done as I could, working by myself. Sitting in the restaurant I started coughing, and it lasted all night. I didn't cut and drag anymore trees today. Worked on a 2X8 PT frame to dump gravel in to make a level spot for the building. I hope I don't have Silicosis. I have a friend that got it sand blasting car parts. I'm coughing right now, and it feels like someone is ripping my lungs out with a treble hook.

Keeping the thread alive, I got the Poulan Super 68 last week at an auction in PA. I thought I paid $45 for it, but looking at my stubbs, I only paid $40 for it. Tomorrow I'm going to an auction in WV that has several Homelites. I can see an XL12 and a couple red cases, don't know what's in them. The one I want is a 100CC Mac 1000/Partner P100. Hope to have pics by this time tomorrow, Joe.

I do an awful lot on Ebay...I know everyone has strong opinions about it, but probably 85% of my saws have come from there. I try to set a realistic budget and then stick to it with a bid at the end. let the chips fall. My local Craigs List occasionally has an interesting saw, but the prices usually aren't much of a deal. Most sellers seem to think the saws are gold or platinum plated. I'm really disappointed how few old saw shops are left in the PNW with any old inventory or saws. I hear all the time from customers that their local shop won't work on anything they don't sell or that parts aren't available (almost always are). It's great for my business to have guys shipping saws in for repair, but it sure isn't the most cost effective for the owner! I'd agree majority of my grabs are on ebay.. to be patient and persistent will pay off. I don't expect to find a homelite 2000 for 15 bucks either but overall fairly happy with system. Out of hundreds of transactions only a handful havnt been great.

I've only got one saw off ebay, an XL700. The guy said it was running. Turned out he had it running by spraying ether in it. Not just a shot to start it, but spraying it for an extended time trying to get it to draw fuel. Anyway, the piston was toast. The saw was so nice I kept it, and told him not to melt anymore pistons with ether. I've been surprised at the regional difference. I got a few zip codes and tried finding saws in other guys area, NADA. I only do searches of 30-50 miles and find saws every week. The Poulan Super 68 I got last week was up and running yesterday. I'm leaving in a few minutes to bid on a 100CC Mac 1000. The auction also has several Homelites. I expect to get the Mac for under $50, and have it running. Big saws in my area are usually in good condition. When we were still in business we only used the big saws for notching and felling and flushing stumps, so they didn't get a lot of use. What ever it takes, good luck in your searches.

I've always said that the saws find me rather than me finding them. Over labor day weekend, a friend and I displayed old saws at an antique power show. I made a lot of connections by people seeing our stuff. A guy that remembered me from the previous year brought a couple saws along hoping that I would be there. I ended up buying a super 650 and a c-71 with an auger attachment from him. It was the first time I ever paid more than what the guy was asking because I thought he was too cheap and I appreciated him thinking of me.

Good deal on that one. I like the forward facing Homelite sticker on the air cleaner cover.

Missed the annual Fall auction. There were about 10-15 saws I would have bid on, A mac 10-10, 2 Poulan 25's, and the rest Homelites. There were two red cases that looked almost new, in one was a 240 in mint condition and an XL in mint condition in the other. When I looked on Thursday there was nothing big. Well, in one of the buildings was a table full of Stihls with no bars. There was a 660 I would have liked to see what it sold for. More may have come in Friday. My old high school friend and hunting buddy blew out a tendon in his ankle. It's bad enough they have to take a tendon from the other side of his ankle and graft it in. He's going to be down for 3 months, and miss deer season. He wanted to go for muzzle loader season before the surgery, so I went hunting instead. He shot two doe. This was the property I got the 192 pound 7 pointer on last year, so I wanted a chance at that ones big brother. Didn't see him. Hopefully I find a couple more saws this year.

Went to a super Auction Saturday. It was an old small engine shop that had been in business for over 50 years. The thing that grabbed me was they listed several rolls of "Old" Oregon chain. I only had time to look up a few rolls, they had 100' of 13/16, 100" of 404 X 058, and several rolls of real odd chain with long rectangular drivers. They had 6 hay wagons full of NOS parts. The auctioneer said the wagons were being sold in bulk lots. You would be getting a quarter of a wagon at a time. The chain would be sold in bulk, "ALL" of the chain at once. There were several hundred new chains still in boxes, and he wouldn't separate the old stuff. I bought 3 old saws, two big Lombards and a Kee Line (David Bradley). The Kee Line is missing the clutch, clutch cover, and bar. It does pull over, and matching it to other David Bradley's, it's the 95CC Power Products engine. Gave $22.50 for all 3. I left the two Lombards in WV and forgot to get pics. I'll post pics of the DB soon.

Probably because there is not a lot of trees here.
