Good morning! I’m new to the forum but have spent a lot of time reading here. This is an awesome resource with awesome people. I’m new to homelite chainsaws but have some background with other brands. I’m currently working on an old Super 2 UT-10653 that has been in the family for many years. I’m trying to find a decent cylinder for it without taking a shot in the dark on eBay. I can find pistons and rings all day long but finding a good cylinder seems to be a chore. Could anybody point me in the right direction or maybe somebody has one they are willing to part with...?? Also, should the cylinder and crankcase be replaced as a set or would I be ok to just put another good cylinder onto my crankcase? I’d be grateful for any and all advice/recommendations!

Pretty sure I have some complete new crankcase/cylinder assemblies somewhere but not sure if they're XL or Super 2. I'll see if I can lay my hands on one of them. It'll probably take some digging.
I understand your situation. Dad gave me my first saw 37-38 years ago, a Super 2. When I moved out on my own, it stayed in Dad's shop although we still used it when we cut firewood together. After Dad passed, I bought it at Mom's auction. It's one of the least valuable saws I own yet the last one I'll let go.

NOS, original packaging is long since gone, probably just a plastic bag. It's 1.4375 bore and is set up for points and also has the oiler and bar adjuster.

blythkd, thanks so much for your response. I tore my saw down this evening and came up with a few more questions. When I compare the looks of my saw to the crankcase/cylinder in your pics I noticed a difference in the area of the flywheel. Your case seems to have a “ring” cast into the area around where the flywheel would be and mine does not have that feature in the casting. Mine is electronic ignition. Is this a “points only” casting that you have? Will it work on mine? My cylinder is stamped “94704”, my crankcase is stamped 94706-A, and a quick measurement of the piston shows 1.4340” if that helps. I tried to attach pics of mine but couldn’t figure out how to do it. Any help is much appreciated as always.

The rotating assemblies, including flywheel, remained unchanged from the old magnesium case saws up through the plastic case units with electronic ignition.
If I'm missing something, which I could be, I'm sure someone will let us know.

Still haven’t gotten this whole photo thing figured out but should be a link in the previous post to see a pic of the crankcase for my saw.....

The electronic ignition flywheel will not clear a points housing crankcase. The points flywheel has a large recess on the back to accommodate this setup, but the later electronic flywheel is basically machined flat. Unless someone knows whether the points flywheel will properly trigger an electronic ignition coil on a Super 2 (they are both Phelon made), the points & electronic crankcases are not interchangeable.

Unless someone knows whether the points flywheel will properly trigger an electronic ignition coil on a Super 2 (they are both Phelon made), the points & electronic crankcases are not interchangeable. I didn't recall if the solid state flywheel had the recess on the backside so I checked the IPLs and thought they showed the same flywheel, A-95007, used on breaker point ignitions as well as electronic. Upon further review, I guess I missed that.
It would be easy to buzz the point box off of the new c/case with a zip wheel. I would do it on one of my own but I understand if someone else is not in favor of that approach. Other than the breaker point box I don't see another issue.

You are correct, the box could be buzzed off and it would work...I just didn't want anyone to think it was a direct fit. We all appreciate offers of parts here...they aren't exactly growing on trees!

Thank you for the correction on the flywheel issue. I missed it and certainly didn't want anyone to be misled.
