I have a Homelite LR4400 generator that has recently started randomly starting by itself. The kill switch quit working about a month ago. It's not an automatic start. I have to pull the cord to start it. I have the fuel line shut off so the only gas it's getting is whatever is in the carburator. Someone please explain how this is happening.

I don't see how that could be possible if it only has a recoil starter. Does it have a battery? Is it plugged in to a wall outlet?

According to an internet search the LR4400 is pull start only, the electric start version is a model LRE4400. If this is not the electric start version (with a battery) then there's no way this can be happening. Unless of course you believe in ghosts?

I don't know if the engine shut off at exactly TDC and there was unburned fuel in the combusion chamber and the carbon was hot enough to ignite it after several minutes of setting..... Kidding of course, no way the engine should be starting without somebody yanking the recoil.
Maybe if the generator head was "back fed" it would act as an electric motor and start the engine? Seems far fetched though.

I remember the old Kohlers had a generator starter system. Don't know if that could happen on one of these if it was still connected to power supply.

Homelite didn't typically supply maintenance parts for powerheads purchased from another company. But I doubt the parts will be hard to find; Briggs still has good support for older engines.
