Lot of talk about FM starter, isn't that an overrunning unit like dieseltech mentioned way back?

I have a video of this thing running. This is with both needles less than half a turn out. youtu.be/iRKHqyyCoV8The spark plug that's currently installed may be causing some issues . Alternates to a Champion J6J ; AC Delco : 42M - 42MS BOSCH : W7EC N-DENSO : W20S-U NGK : B6S Saw sounds lean and did not hear four-stroking at WFO ... but, change spark plug FIRST. I started with a j6j doing the same thing. This plug in it cross referenced for a j6j.

For what its worth, sometimes fuel is cominng out of the carb throat and it smokes a good bit. That's why i think it is rich

I usually turn needles about 1.25 turns out from lightly seated as a base.

Wasnt sure what service manual called for. I could be dead wrong here but i know the c5 in video is way too lean. Also know that i dont have any tillys set 1/2 turn out and if i am flooding out saw at 1 turn out the metering is not set up proper. Either that or i have a couple hundred improper tuned homelites. Wich is entirely possible lol

It leaks gas out of the carb when it isnt running but has been pulled over.

It still sounds like a leak to me if your saw is leaking fuel out carb. You cannot tune anything until carb is sorted out. The link you mentioned is a great way to see if the needle is holding without air. A pop off test would be good idea. There are plenty of you tube videos outlining pop off on tilly carbs. The metering arm must be adjusted to correct height as well. I am not the best to describe but would also suggest a search on this site or youtube for video. Please dont run the saw with a lean condition.. I know with the help of thr good folks on this site you will get it sorted Scott

Just for everyone's drastic need to know what's going on (read with sarcasm). I have sourced a new starter cup and ordered a new clutch unit from Leon. I've spent the past week sorting out a new alternative to the starter cup issue. Only OEM I could find was 50 bucks on Ebay, so I have made one with a few simple mods to a hole saw. Ill make up a video and post it, i figure it's pretty useful info for people on here. Now to figure out the carb flooding issue.... I have done a pressure test on it and the needle holds no pressure at all. the lever is set to flush, if not lower than the carb body floor as the service manual calls for. For whatever reason, the needle is not seating. i have tried multiple needles, but only have the one seat at this point. these are the same symptoms it had before the carb rebuild, although it runs much better now. Is it possible the carb itself is the problem? Or do i source another carb kit?

I actually flipped the teeth around that catch on the fly wheel cup and now it's working good again, but thanks for offering to help.
