The duckbill check valve in the oil tank is most likely causing the problem.
Refer to the Homelite XL Throttle Interlock Chainsaw IPL 17118 Rev.4 , for your saw.

I had noticed the chain in the first images and took notice it's got serious anti-kickback features. Looking at it again, I'm wondering if it's 1/4" pitch instead of the normal 3/8"LP? If you look at the drive sprocket, it will have 9 spurs instead of the usual 6 for 3/8"LP. I checked this and it has 6 spurs so it is a 3/8" then?

I just noticed on the pictures, that is a very anti-kickback chain! Don't know if I've ever seen one quite like that. I run Oregon Vanguard on one of my Super 2's I use for limbing and its not anywhere near like that

That is old Oregon Extraguard chain. Has really massive rakers.
