Another nice saw. The piece of wire in the on/off switch is not factory. Leon has mufflers for these saws here: link

Looks like a nice saw. I'd get a muffler from leon and pick up a new bar and chain combo, that way you'll have a spare chain. If you're wanting a NOS bar, I'd talk to chainsawlady!

The service manual says that a 150 should have 120-140 psi compression, so it is still within specifications. The engine should be inspected and repaired if compression is 90 psi or below.

That's a little low but not awful. What does it read with some oil in the cylinder?

That's a little low but not awful. What does it read with some oil in the cylinder? A bit oil and now it reads 130. Thx rowdy. Acc to the specs posted by 1975 130psi should be quite ok.

That's better. Do you know if the saw has been used recently? I've found when saws sit the rings get sticky and don't seal well. I'd imagine once you get it running and get some fresh oil in there, you'll see a nice boost in those numbers.

Homelite didn't actually make that carburetor, they just had the real manufacturer put the Homelite name on it. Walbro HDC-54, HDC-20 and Tillotson HK-30 carburetors have been used on the Homelite 150. Yours looks like a Walbro. The exact model should be on the side of the carburetor, near the mixture screws.

Sure is! That's a super early version of the HDC.

Yep. Hard to see in the picture but the date is stamped in just under the HDC. Looks like 1973?
God dam! That thing was dirty! If you can locate the previous owner, he needs to be smacked in the head for doing that to the idle screw. Doesn't anybody know how to use a screwdriver anymore?

I wonder if I can take the two halves apart or am i destroying the fuel tank seal by doing so? Looks like a welding seal in there in the middle. Reason: cleaning and new switch parts to be installed. I thought that is easier with everything apart, but not sure.

Generally the tank doesn't need to be split for normal service. If you do split it, you'll have to seal it back together with something gas-proof; Homelite never used a gasket.
