The first edition IPL for the 650 shows that there was an adjustment knob on the top of the oil tank to control the oil flow rate...has anyone ever actually seen a saw with this feature? I've haven't and I know I've looked; they've got to be out there but the production numbers must be pretty low.

Strange you ask. I just mentioned this on most sought after Homelite’s on Facebook. I have only seen them in pictures, never in person and never one for sale. You can see pics of them in Chainsaw age on your own site.

Don't know if it's connected in any way but the one in the picture strongly resembles the one on top of my Echo made John Deere 50V and it's Echo 452VL twin, along with all it's brethren. Any chance Homelite "borrowed" Echo's patented design for a short time, till it became a controversy?
The same saw has a similar thumb knob to adjust the idle speed on the fly and without any tools.

I was 4 when my dad bought our first homelite and it was a 74 650 which was the first yr introduced. I know its not on that one so maybe a prototype or mock up?

An old thread, but a great topic. These saws did exist, but you don't see them often. Here's a pic of a NOS tank showing the location for the adjustable oiler. Another unique part on these was the rear handle. They didn't have the manual oiler with the thumb pump, only the adjustable auto. Dan
