Got to run a couple of my saws Sunday. Neighbor had dropped a couple of Walnut trees to clear his yard and gave them to me. My friend and son loaded it while I cut it. Great way to spend a afternoon. trailer load of walnut by CLASEC, on Flickr

I always lament the loss of the Walnut trees, good food & good medicine in those trees. Hopefully it had to go for some reason. Save some of the bigger pieces and take up bowl carving.
I do always love the smell of it burning outside. The smell just takes you back. Reminds me of my first woodworking projects in Walnut.

I do always love the smell of it burning outside. The smell just takes you back. Reminds me of my first woodworking projects in Walnut. The first owner had overplanted and passed away. The second owner didn't thin them out. Third owner didn't want to have them taken down but these were leaning towards the house and the neighbors shed. What is the medicine you are speaking of?

The green hull of the nuts is one of the best sources of organic iodine there is. Especially away from the ocean, which of course is poisoned to high heaven these days. Iodine is incredibly important to our bodies, as in, can't live without it. Got a thyroid problem, goiter anything of that nature, Black Walnut hulls is magic stuff. It's also a great anti-parasitic. I give a tincture of Black Walnut to all of my animals, myself & family regularly. Also cures impetigo, ringworm etc like nothing else.
The oil from the nuts is not only incredibly nutritious, you can make a wood finish comparable to Tung Oil. Very durable & water proof.
