Hello,
About 2 yrs ago, I bought a B&D Battery chainsaw for my .3 acre home in town. It worked fine for the few trees that I have and for general yard stuff.
At the start of 2018. I ended up getting a new home with 5 acres of land with 4.5 acres of it wooded. The B&D battery operated almost worked OK, but I got tired of almost falling a tree and having the battery go dead and leaving a dangerous situation until the battery was recharged.
So I started looking for a gas chainsaw at yard sales, etc. I saw some, but they were more than I wanted to spend until I came across a Super EZ Auto for $2. I figured if I cant get it to work I can throw it away and be out $2, no biggie. So I cleaned the tank, bought a new spark plug and with a little fiddling started up and now starts up every time. I ended up getting a new chain and 20 inch bar and its handled everything I've throw at it.
I went to a flea market on Sunday and ended up finding a Blue 150 Automatic for $5. Yup, brought that home with me too. The recoil starter was stuck and the points were seized on the pivot and wouldn't open and close. I fixed the 2 problems, did a general cleaning and now it starts every time. I put the stock 18 inch bar off the SEZ on it and it cuts great.
About a year ago (before I bought the house) a large white oak fell on the property and the trunk and about 20 feet of it was just left there. When I say big, I mean BIG, the small end is 40 inches in diameter going to about 60 inches in diameter at the base. My Homelites are awesome, but they arent doing much with this log.
I talked to a neighbor about the big log and he has a Stihl 051AV ( with 24 inch bar) and I ended up getting that also. I paid more for the Stihl than I did for both of the Homelites, but it was still a heck of a deal for me. I ordered a 36 inch bar and I will probably make an Alaskan saw mill with it to make my own lumber.
When I bought the Homelites, I ended up getting them running from information gathered from this sight, so I thought I would join.
If I can figure out pics, I'll post a few.
