What's with the fancy support rod from the handlebars to the from bump spikes? The spikes are homemade too. Interesting how that area, of that picture is so dark and hard to see... Proceed carefully. I'm thinking the saw was used for falling and may have had a long bar on it. Probably there to help keep the handle from bending.

Well I heard the ol saw come to life this evening. Got it to make spark....then flushed the fuel tank, replaced fuel lines and filter. Rebuilt the carb and it made some noise. Carb floods out like a pig though and I think it is because of the metering lever and needle being connected and the seat being to deep. This was a genuine tilitson kit to. I need to figure out the carb kit number that comes with the original style seat and needle. Gonna take another carb to the shop tomorrow and kit it there. Gonna pressure test the carb on the saw to see if it's actually a leaky needle. Anyhow....she made some noise! Not to thrilled that the carb isn't cooperating.....as this means I'll probably have to find another kit for the 990's carb since it has that same needle and seat. Ah well...best to find out on another saw before the 990 is fired up!

Well sure enough the flooding was from the 3 things. Needling being to short, seat being to deep, and spring being to weak. Co worker gave me a small case of old carb parts he had and lucky for me about 6 oem style seats were in there all in great shape. Needless to say the carb holds pressure now and the saw idles perfectly. Tried to load up a tad on me here and there but for a 50 year old saw I'm not gonna complain. Points or condenser weren't liking the heat so I installed a nova chip I had laying around. Going to do the test on it and see if I have any issues. Removed the points and put the chip inside where the points sit(Barely fits) and gonna see if it gets to hot in there for it. Keeps everything hidden and out of sight which is nice. I'll have some pictures and a video for you all soon. Saw is alot cleaner now to. haha

Pictures as promised! She's looking better with now. Got a top cover, carb side cover, pulley, and brake knob on there. Not to mention a crap ton of scrubbing, carb is holding a decent tune but I'll have to cut with it and tune as I go. Posted a picture of the s/n tag so if anyone can decode that for me that'd be awesome. 002 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 003 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 004 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 005 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr

Am I seeing this correctly, does the starter grip snap into a recess to hold it in place on the side of the tank? This saw would work well with my OCD!

I think he is seeing the insert on the top of the grip or a shadow off the pull rope yoke at the bottom of the grip

Am I see this correctly, does the starter grip snap into a recess to hold it in place on the side of the tank? This saw would work well with my OCD! There's a rope insert in the support to keep from fraying and snapping the rope. The handle is split at the bottom which creates that illusion that it is snapped in place. Handle and starter rope are my next replacement item as this handle has seen its day. I have 6 guys waiting in line to trade saws or buy this from me already. lol

So you guys are saying that the side of the saw/tank is just plain flat? That is a powerful illusion, I still see it.

The metal insert in the top of the grip sticking out a bit, plus a shadow around the rubber? Makes sense looking back, but yah, it's like one of those puzzle things where you stare at it and it keeps changing. Wild.

Could buy several other saws with the proceeds...
Or, you could have a corner on the market for a very rare saw...

With 6 guys bidding, you might get a decent price, eh? On the other hand, I always like to have a spare, just in case.

There tons of gear drives out there....but these are the only 2 speed versions I know of. Nah...ain't gonna sell it....if anything I'll trade, but I have owned one of these for a year and never cut with it so....now's my chance! lol

But nah....having to much fun with it! Plus Leon has to come over and cut with it to! And anyone else that wants to be at the next gtg. May have to break down and do a pnw gtg.

Feeling damn lucky right now. lol Ready for cutting and just needs an edge on the chain. Oiler works good and got to see the different chain speeds. Less of a difference than I expected but it is there. Excited to see how it cuts with the different gearing. 001 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 002 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 003 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 004 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 005 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr
