Not sure if I will keep this or not, I'm having a little trouble with the recoil starter and the rope not going back in. The gas cap was eat up from the inside, a friend gave me a used one, the oil cap leaks, but it's just the gasket and I think I have another rubber gasket. I gave 70 for it shipped to my door. UPS packed it by putting the unwrapped saw in a large 24x24x24 box and poured peanuts over it, there was still oil in it. It has a 18" power match bar and came with two good chains. Model 10486 serial number 6d2500009. Looks like it might be built on the 7th of September 1982, 9th one built that day. 20180607_104046 by Al Michaels, on Flickr

That’s a early 410. Has any parts been replaced on the recoil? They did revise some parts. See pic below.

My 410 is a 1982, four years older than Acres site says the saw was introduced. I believe the 410 did come out in 1982 though, at the end of the run of previous models. So i would say every part on mine is the older revision of parts. Are you saying that I should buy all the newer updated parts in order to repair the saw?

No. I would take it apart first to see what the issue is. The pics explain if you use new style parts in the old style housing.

Introduction dates seem to be off sometimes on Acres. The site says my 450 came out in 1978 but I've got a bill of sale in the paperwork that came with it dated 1976.

If you guys would pass along those dates to Mike Acres I am sure he would correct his files. He has always been open to corrected data. He's not big on "I think it was..." but with paperwork or serial number data he would certainly add that to his records.

Big undertaking without a sheet from Homelite to start from. That is what Mike used. Of course, he did every chainsaw under the sun too. He might be agreeable to us copying what he has already and posting it here. If that happened, could we edit it for corrections?

I think we have enough to start a section on verifiable updates that we could transfer to Mike. BTW, eBay sellers are using both old and new part numbers for the old pulleys. I saw one new pulley for sale and it also had both part numbers on it

Why doesn't any of the IPL's show the bushing, p/n 97992? I really don't know. Could be the earlier ones bushing is part of housing, later ones separate?
