300 miles round trip to get this one today, sure hope I can get this thing to run. It seems to be all here, it even came with a complete starter. I do have a spare that I have been hoarding for years though, just in case. Not sure of the model, there is no ID plate on it. I was looking for an 8S3, I think this is a 9 but I am guessing. Anyone know for sure what the model number is? I think the 8 is cuter. There is a small plate near the air filter that says to fill with water before starting the engine and a decal on the side of the pump housing that is mostly missing. It appears to have read 385 in big letters, which might be the gpm. The remains of that decal can be just made out in the bottom picture. The little bit of Homelite can be seen on the gas tank. I am also not at all sure about the 8 on the pump housing, but it might be from a rental house for inventory control. Can't tell about compression, the engine is very hard to turn over, seems like very stiff oil in the cylinder is causing a huge amount of drag. The original paint is still nearly complete on the discharge threads, like it never had a fitting or hose screwed on it. This unit might be in very good internal condition, I will know more after I fiddle with it a bit. KIMG0023 KIMG0024 KIMG0022

Hey, Congratulations!!! Now you can stop lusting after mine! Is that the one from CL in Ill?
You may be right about it not being an 8, the cylinder head shroud is different & your intake is on the end where mine is on the side but practically everything else looks identical. Maybe it is an 8S3 and just a later year/updated version? Pretty sure you're right about the 385 as well. I had been collecting some literature here and there when I found things, I'll email you what I have.
If you pull that starter pulley off, the date of manufacture and model may be stamped in next to the points/condenser & coil.

This one was in northern Minnesota. I am still lusting after yours, it just has the look, very nice. I had sort of given up hope, my "Homelite Pump Wanted" ad had run since you got yours without response. Then this guy called and off I went to Backus, MN. It was cheap so the gas money was not so hard to spend. He had it for 4 years and never started it, no way to know when it last ran or any history before that. The history on yours is very cool.
I will get after the starter pulley and see what I can find. There are a couple of videos on line about these pumps but mostly they call them "2 cycle pumps". One lists its model number as 9TP3-A1 and it has the same cylinder shroud shape as this one. I know there were high pressure models and high volume models but I don't know the model nomenclature used to distinguish them.

I am interested in anything related. I should know if there is anything under the pulley later today, thanks.

This is from one of the Homelite catalogs. The nomenclature for different versions is the numbers/letters after the hyphen. Mine being the -1P is the "pressure pump".

I believe this is your pump, at least what most closely resembles it.

Now it look like just the engine is the same, but the pump is different.

No, the engine is different too, just in little places. I have a manual for an 8S3 around here, just gotta find it I guess. I need to know about getting at the points and I think that would be the same. Not much else I need right now. Of course I have 50 other projects too. Thanks for trying.

The “8’s” and “9’s” are combined IPL’s for generators and pumps but no real pictures on the IPL’s. I’m no expert on these, so yours could be one of those.

Well, if you think your manual would help, please send it. Yesterday was the first time I had ever seen one of these. I tried to take the pulley off the front and got nowhere. There are three screws there that were loctited in, oh yeah, this has got to be it. Nope, all I got was the outer face of the starter rope groove. Now I am guessing the pulley screws on. Will go look for the manual I have, maybe that will help.

I found out from the 8S3 manual that there is a nut on the crank holding the pulley. It only has two flats and looks like part of the pulley so I did not want to mess with it without knowing what was going on. I will try in the next day or two to get that off and see if the model number is under there. It does look like one or the other of those IPL's will cover this pump, I am quite sure it is one of the 9's. I will try to look at the service manuals and see if there is anything there, I have not looked yet. I spent the afternoon re-skinning the arm rest in my truck. The plastic covering has gone where my elbow rests on it a lot, it was starting to cut me. I layered it over with some leather I got on Saturday coming back with the pump. Thanks for checking this out. I will let you know what I find for a model number.

The rotor nut pulls off the rotor when you back it off. Make sure that you have something that fits the nut well. The ones that I've removed were very easy. The built-in puller is much like Mall's design.

Make sure that the starter plate is back on as that is what the nut pushes against.

Thanks, that is a good drawing. Where did you find it? Homelite shop manual 3rd edition. My guess.
