I bought this on a lark. I doubt I'll keep it, Id rather sell or use it a partial trade on a XP auto oiler or big direct drive saw. Homelite410a by Al Michaels, on Flickr

Those clear caps are known not to like ethanol based fuels. This is what happened to mine.

Is the 410 a Solo made saw? To my knowledge no. All USA made. The Solo saws all have some German parts.

So how is this 410 as a working saw? I may keep it, I thought it was a plastic case, but it appears to be magnesium. 68cc at more than 10,000 rpm seem like it would do some damage. Does it come close to a SXL-925?

Is the 410 a Solo made saw? Tons of speculation about the 410, 540 & 8800 being Solo built but no hard evidence. What I can say about the 540 & 8800 is that they do use a Prufex coil that has "made in Germany" on it. Maybe not Solo built, but I'd sure bet that they are Solo influenced. Fun to speculate!

Does it come close to a SXL-925? It's comparable to a 925 until you get above about a 30" bar...then the 925 will outcut it based on low end grunt. I use a 410 with a 28" bar pretty regularly for firewood and I like it.

I had three 410 saws and they where good running saws, a little heavy but smooth running. The intake boot is the only achiles heel. I traded mine and now regret it.

Seems to be lots of intake boots for under $20 on ebay... Personally i like running bigger saws so my opinion on it is slightly scewed. Smooth running saw with good power but at nearly the same weight I always grab the 540.

The boots are still available, the muffler is really restricting with a little opening up they run real nice. I have not run a 540 but mine handled a 32” bar in oak. I’m sure there are other saws that will out pull it with big bars, but when you have a hundred bucks in three 70cc saws you can’t go wrong.
