Traded for this sight unseen about a month ago and got around to picking it up. I'm told that it was a backpack mosquito fogger used during the Vietnam War. Also picked up another XL-400 and an EZ-10.

Wow, that has to be about as rare as Homelite gets. I wonder if Homelite made it or if a company called London Fog might have. My garage was across the street from them. They made a lot of different foggers, starting with the pulse jet one that was a long tube about 3 inches in diameter and 6 feet long, running through a bread box. It hung over the shoulder and fogged drive in movies and the like.

That is a very cool piece! I'd be afraid to even touch it knowing the kind of cancer causing stuff the military was fond of having everyone else spray around. But still very cool.
Clean it up and get it working, could be some great fun on Halloween!

They used to have a guy spray DDT at the drive-in before the movies to rid the place of mosquitos, best to roll down your windows the said so the stuff would get in your car, lol

I remember a video of a Homelite blower that did not seem to blow much a while back. I would bet it was the guts of this thing, designed for pressure not volume and needing the rest of the duct work to really do the job. Anyone else remember that one?

Thats always a tough one some military equipment, many have a military tag and ID on the item, but not a manufacture tag, looks like a XL-12 power plant, but man that is one big ol backback to lug around.

That's what I thought. When it was described to me, I had a hard time envisioning an XL-12 powered anything on a backpack. That's why I chanced a blind trade.

That looks like it might be NOS but robbed for parts. The straps look like they have never been used. Does the skid look new? Nice.

Hey sawsandbeer, what a cool auction find! Is the hopper tank missing or did you remove it for photos? (I was kinda wondering of it got disposed of for fear of trace DDT residual)
Don't you just wish that fogger could talk?? Man, the stories it'd have... Great find and good luck with it! Grego-

The tank is missing. Everything else seems to be present and it runs on prime. Cleaned shellac out of tank but needs a carb clean or kit. Recoil spring is broken also. Likely will be for sale as soon as I get running reliably
