Been thinking about this for a bit, since getting my C-5 I guess and Rarefish's photo just reminded me again.. I notice a large percentage of the C-Series saws I see have pretty severe corrosion and pitting in the Mag. case, mine included. Looks to be concentrated in this group of saws more so than any other. Just wondering if there is a reason behind it anyone knows of?

That's an interesting article, the company I work for uses a lot of aluminum die castings, similar trouble. We use vendors to do the casting, we do the machining. I don't know what Homelite did but any change in our process and the castings go bad. They might have changed vendors or alloys or it might have rained that day.

Good points both & yah, it could easily be so many things. Maybe we should start stalking people that used to work for Homelite way back then and get them on here, starting shedding light on some of these oddball questions. Maybe we wouldn't have to stalk them, hell they'd be celebrities. Unless they were the bathroom janitor or something.

Good luck on finding anyone still alive that worked on the C series saws in the Homelite plants.

Good luck on finding anyone still alive that worked on the C series saws in the Homelite plants. A friend of mine just retired from our local Ace Hardware, he was in charge of their rental center and small engine mechanic. I think he said he was 72-73. He grew up in his father's small engine shop/Pioneer saw dealership. He new every saw ever made. When I told him I had a Disston DA211 he said he thought that was the smoothest running saw ever made. When I said I was going to get a Disston DO101 he said it was the opposite of the 211, didn't care for it. Showed him my 7-29 and he just smiled and said "that's a nice one there". I always said, "I hang out with the old guys, they know lots of stuff". It's sad that now I'm one of the old guys and I don't know squat to pass on, Joe.
