Nice painting. It's looking great. Gonna be another TJ's artwork. I'm still going at a snails pace on that Pioneer 650. Need to find parts, get paint & get painting. Pinched nerve in my neck slowing me down this past week. Thanks man, I had a youtube subscriber offer a mostly complete 650 to me awhile ago. Had a good top end on it as far as I know. You want me to email him and get some pictures and pricing? Thanks. I can't say I'm not at least curious. Where is he out of? The shipping for this stuff makes it prohibitive sometimes, but worth a look. Most of the parts I'm going to need are the things that will be shot on most saws. Starter recoil spring, fuel line, main bearings & seals, gaskets etc.

Got the last large part of the build painted this evening. 001 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr Also rebuilt the carb and installed the nos rings which showed up today. 002 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr Cylinder honed out real nice, but I think I'm going to have to blast the outside and paint it with high temp as it's just not wanting to clean up all that nice. 003 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr Pile to clean up is getting smaller. Just have to blast the fuel port and clean up the ignition system. 004 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr

I'm curious what the outside of the cylinder looks like and what you've done to clean it. I'd prefer not to paint those parts as the paint can reduce the cooling fins ability to do their job. Don't know to what degree, it may not be enough to matter but there may be other options.
I was really shocked how much the cylinder on the Pioneer I'm working on cleaned up. From the level of corrosion it started with I really didn't have a lot of hope but I had slathered it with CorrosionX and it sat like that for maybe a couple weeks before I got the cylinder out and it went in the parts washer. Mineral Spirits in the parts washer and a toothbrush, it cleaned up really nice. I was totally shocked.

The heat tank got alot of the gunk off...but the discoloration of the metal is what I'm not happy with. I'm not planning to actually Cut with the saw so I don't think paint will hurt anything. That's if I can even get gutsy enough to start it. haha

I'd put it on thick and let it sit a day or two at a least then put some on a purple scotchbrite pad and scrub the parts clean using the oil as a lubricant, rinse in the parts washer and should look like new. I see they have an aerosol too but I've not used that version.

Started putting some of the saw back together this evening. One thing that will delay progress a bit is the other crank seal I'm still waiting on. Seems usps takes their precious time these days. Ah well, gonna work on cleaning up the cylinder and removing that old head gasket material. Plenty to do in the mean time. 002 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 001 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr

This evening being friday night was party night in the shop. lol Started off the evening by blasting and painting the cylinder. 001 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 002 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr Then installed the piston, con rod, and cup. Grease is a savior when it comes to holding those little needles in place for installing. 003 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 004 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 005 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr Got the cylinder installed and tightened down. 007 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 008 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr Always liked waiting until the cylinder was installed to put the side plate on. Makes tightening the nuts for the cylinder ALOT easier. Ended the evening with installing the plate and crankseal. 010 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr More updates tomorrow folks.

Looks like a chainsaw again! Just need to install the fuel line assembly, decide weather I want to covert to .404 or stick with 1/2 inch chain, and install decals when they show up. Keeping an eye out for some bars anywhere from 32-39 inches. Couple on ebay right now. 010 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 011 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 013 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr

Found a bar finally! 34 inch overall and 31 inch cutting length. Oregon homelite mount NOS beauty. Hoping to find a stencil kit so I can restore the bar back to original besides just the gray. Gonna take the saw in tomorrow and make a chain for it. 002 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 001 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr
