Looking for advice on removing a stuck recoil shaft from the rotor nut. Removed the cover screws and lifted it far enough to spray penetrant on the shaft. Then left it sitting on the drive case side to help direct it to the nut. Any suggestions if this doesn't work? Charles.

Try getting a new nut?

I have to get the recoil off to remove the nut. The shaft won't pull out of the nut.

What saw are you working on?

What saw are you working on? The blue 150 I got from the saw shop. Saws from Mark by CLASEC, on Flickr

I'm not familiar with Kroll.Have you ever tried using a 50/50 mix of acetone/atf ?

Kroil is some excellent stuff. I doubt I would've gotten that crusty Pioneer 650 apart without it. Can't hurt to try the acetone/ATF mix too.
I'm not hugely familiar with the 150 but can you get a narrow drift through the starter grill and use a small hammer to apply a little lateral shock from several sides? I'd probably go around a few times and keep soaking it as I go.

OK,I took a look at mine,of course mine is off the saw & all apart, but I did come up with this destructive thought. The recoil pulley should be able to be pried off the recoil housing by getting under it with a couple of screwdrivers & gently prying the pulley off the recoil spring. It might ruin the recoil spring in the process and/or it might break/crack the plastic recoil cover. You must be careful & decide whether you want to do this & also decide when to stop.jerseyhighlander had a good idea - get in the recoil with a narrow drift pin & tap it all the way around to see if it might break it loose. If all else fails,& it breaks the recoil, there is one for the blue 150 on feebay, but be prepared to pay dearly $27.The only good thing about it is free shipping. If you're like me & don't like to spend money unnecessarily, this could take some time.I also don't see how you can get any penetrant in that nut with the housing still on. There is one other thought that just occurred to me.I didn't check my saw to see if this will work though.Loosen & remove the recoil screws, this should allow the whole assembly to turn. Then if you can get an open end wrench on the nut, spin it off the crankshaft, but the assembly will have to lift up enough to get the wrench under it.

I think I'd cut the starter grip off, that way you can disengage the rope drum from the recoil housing for better access, as Ed suggested. May not even take any prying. I've had these do what you are describing...usually with the penetrating oil and rotating it in reverse (while lifting up) does the trick.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Tapped on the shaft through the grilles and lifted the rope drum and off it came. The recoil spring was broken so I borrowed a recoil from another saw put gas it the carburetor and off it went till it ran out of fuel. Charles.
