Well I got a gallon of the Stihl bar oil, not the vegetables organic stuff but the regular Stihl bar oil. I must say it was a noticeable difference in it and the oriellys oil I was using. I could the chain wet all the way out to the top of that 32” bar and it stayed that way. I couldn’t see that with the oriellys oil. Lesson learned I will never buy that stuff again The orange jug? Thats all I use, because I can get it locally.

I got as far as Sweepleaders post and that was it. When I started working for my Dad in 71-72 no one carried bar oil, except maybe saw shops, but I had never heard of it. We used the cheapest 10W30 motor oil that was on sale at WalMart. Later when more places like hardware stores and such started carrying saws, we were exposed to bar oil. Once his business got big enough that we were dealing with distributors, we started getting mailings on new products. One company pushed thin bar oils that were supposed to fling off the end of the bar and carry heat away. Another had thicker bar oil that was supposed to ride around the tip and lubricate better. They both had a page of scientific studies to back up their product. In the mean time, we kept using cheap 10W30, and I have 40+ years of actual use on saws with the original bars on them. Now that all oil is expensive, if someone has gallon jugs cheap, I'll buy a couple, otherwise I still use 10W30, Joe.
