I've got another question about this 150- is this saw piston ported,or does it require an intake boot?

Well I did manage to get the saw apart today,it wasn't that tough after all.I do need some help with the new spark plug boot though. How do I get the spring in the rubber boot? 20180226_182833 by edju1958, on Flickr Here's the split saw.It seems to me as I turned the saw over by hand that there was a lot of oil coming from the muffler & out one of the mounting screw holes.Apparently this had been going on for quite some time before the saw was abandoned & left for dead because there had to be 1/4 in.of oil & sawdust caked to the housng.I cleaned it up the best I could til I get the carb off.I didn't see any"tubes"that you were talking about. 20180226_174814 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180226_174722 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180226_174613 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180226_174536 by edju1958, on Flickr

The way I get the plug connector in the boot is to first pierce the plug wire, getting it pretty close to the coiled part, get a little Vaseline (other slicky stuff will work too I'm sure) and lube the boot on the tip, start the coiled part into the boot, push in and then use the plug wire to push it home. Just make sure the coiled part is oriented vertically so it'll take the plug tip.

Update on the progress of the 150.Today I got brave enough to take the carb out because I had to know which carb was in it for my rebuild kit order.I now know why I couldn't move the choke lever on the outside of the case - I've never seen this happen before, but the choke butterfly was seized, couldn't move it one way or the other.I took it out to the garage & annointed it with WD40 & put a plierrs on it & GENTLY worked it to & fro. It's working like new now. I wanted to test the coil with my multi-meter,but I can't seem to get it to work for mme.YES,I did put a battery in it.Maybe I've got a dead unit? When I turned it on the needle should've jumped a bit, right?Nothing.I even tried touching the leads together momentarily, still nothing. Oh,I almost forgot, one of the tubes that goes onto the speed screws is missing.Anyone got an extra laying around?

I put the boot on the coil wre yesterday,I was so proud of myself - til today when I went to connect it to the spark plug & found out that it's about 2 in.too short. This coil wire doesn't screw out.So I guess I can throw away some more money on another coil.

Since there's no area to post for the 150 Auto,I thought I'd post here because of the similarities in the cc.'s.I have a 150 Auto - that's what it says for the model,& ser.# 33110616.If I'm reading this correctly,it was made on the 311th day of 1983,& 616th unit made that day? 1973. 8 digit serial number, first digit is year. 9 digit serial number, second digit is year.

Since we're dealing with the possibity of 3 different decades that Homelite made ths model ('73,'83,'93),how do you know which decade to choose?I don't know if this model was produced into 1993,just covering the bases.Or,is it that Homelite used 8 digit serial #'s in the '70's,& used 9 digit serial #'s in the '80's?

I sure would appreciate that.I can get a lot more out of seeing pics sometimes than I can by reading words.I guess I've got a comprehension problem.I've found the best though is actual"hands on".Do you want to send them to my email address,or right here?Right here is probably better, then all members can view them.

Almost everything known about figuring out dates on Homelites is included in this thread: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/board/72/homelite-serial-numbers-datesYou will see how it is done for the most part.

The file size came out a little larger than I wanted (86000kb) so it will take a few min to download. drive.google.com/open?id=1zNnVp9t78ESbleeTrceM3YlZiqdOxWcK

Your welcome. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. Normally I scan everything with a flatbed scanner. This time I just took pics with my cell phone, uploaded them to computer, and made a pdf from them. You can take 40 pics with a cellphone much faster than scanning them.

Yeah, but it still took time & I really appreciate it! Nice job too! Very good quality! It helped me get the 150 apart & hopefully I found the problem(s).
