I've been trying to find out what the bore is on a 340.I see on Acres site that it says 45mm,but I know his site isn't always accurate. There's a Nikasil cylinder on Ebay for sale for a Homelite, that's all it says,& when I inquire about it all the clown says is"46 mm".He doesn't tell me what Homelite/Solo it'll fit. Will one mm make that much of a difference?I can't find any other info anywhere to confirm or dispute it.

If it’s the one I’m thinking about, that one on eBay is for a SXL. (Aftermarket)

One mm is a lot!!! You can’t use a cylinder that’s that far off.

OK,understood, but I can't seem to get any verification of the specs on Mike Acres'site. Those specs are probably correct. 340’s are Solo designed and everything is metric.

I don't have product spec sheet on the 340, so I cannot confirm the bore size. I can say that what he has posted is about the size you'd expect from a 54cc saw.

I have a thought here & don't know if this can be done.I found a complete cylinder w/piston,rings,pin,& clips for a Solo 667 which is 48 mm.I don't know if the crank is the same, probably not,but would it be possible to turn the 340 (654) into a 667 using the new engine?

Thanks Leon! I was on Ebay yesterday looking for at least a cylinder & came up with nothing.I left the field fairly vague so that I'd get a lot of results,& still this didn't come up.The compression is on the low end,but that should be remedied by a new ring & honing of course.I did find 2 rings there yesterday, one was very pricey at $17 + $4 shipping, the other one is $10 + $4 shipping.I've got to check with my parts supplier,he's sometimes cheaper

Here's an update on the 340 "short block"from Ebay.I messaged the seller extensively,he said it had 110# comp.after 5 pulls. He seems to be a fairly honest guy who says he won't put junk on Ebay to sell.Of course I commenderd him & told him that there are some people who sell on Ebay who are not so honest. So,I might have a unit that has more than 110# comp.& rings might not be needed. Is there any way to test for comp.before the cylinder goes into the saw to determine if rings are needed or not?I don't relish the idea of tearing down the 340,putting it back together only to find out that it should've had rings put in in the first place.

There's not much a good way short of chucking up a adapter into your drill and spinning the engine over from the flywheel nut. This has obvious risks, so I'm not sure it's the best idea. If the piston looks clean & shiny through both ports, in all likelihood it has higher compression than 110#. But if you're comfortable with the cost of the rings, that would certainly prevent the risk of another teardown.

I did ask the seller if there was any scoring on the cylinderr or piston, which would be a dead giveaway for the low comp, but he said there was no scoring on either one & if it were scored he wouldn't put it on Ebay to begin with.Giving only 5 pulls to get 110# comp.tells me that there's more comp.there yet.Of course I've been lied to before by an Ebay seller,so I'm wary.

I have one for my Samsung Note 8 I used 10 foot inside a vent pipe, worked pretty well considering the dirt. I've used it in walls and its only drawback is that it doesn't see anything if the walls have bat insulation inside

I'm sure he's on the level wth me.He said he stands behind everything he sells. He told me how he acquired the saw - the original owner came in with the saw & he didn't want to put the cost of a new carb into it,so he gave it to the seller for what the seller had into it for repair costs. The seller then decided to part it out.I asked him about the carb because the one that was on the 340 I swapped out onto the 290,Depending on what carb was on the 340 that he had,I might be able to use parts from the two to make a good usable carb.He also asked me if I'd let him know what the comp.was once I got the saw together.
