Hello all, working on a ez automatic that has the single dykes piston ring in it, small bore 1.5625" . 03070999 serial#. type 10104, took the cylinder jug off and rod on crank had way to much play. When I broke it down found all 28 needle bearings. Was surprised. A slight discolor on crank@ rod journal with dial indicator .495 Crank in case seems pretty tight . no slop at all in bearings. spins well no slop, no noise Pin in piston looked to be ok not slopy. Are there any specs crank rod journal size? What I have found were the general maintnance and torque values for a rebuild, from Leon's site 69' or 70' years If I need a crank now is the time for replacement. cylinder does not look bad , loaded up with crud on outside jklw77

The play is it up and down play or side to side play?

There is some side to side play, this is normal. There should be NO up and down play.

I'm afraid I've never seen the specs you are looking for published. I personally have found it very rare that there is wear on the crank. As long as the needles that make up the rod bearing are shiny and show no signs of pitting or dull gray wear marks, your crank is likely fine. The rod bearings are still fairly easy to come by if you are really worried, but as Clasec & Undee have already indicated, some side to side is normal. IT would be pretty unusual for a cylinder & piston to be good, but the bottom end be worn out. In a 2-stroke, the combustion chamber is the last stop along the line so to speak and therfore the first part that normal gets damaged from running bad mix or no oil.

Thank you. all for the posts, the rod up and down was slight, the rod side clearance is what is really slopy . Have decided to replace crank rod roller bearing , and rod
