1. XL-76, probably a 1978 2. XL-12 looks like it could be a 1975 3. 550 looks like a 1984
Welcome to House of Homelite. I'm not the best at this serial number thing, I'm sure others will be around soon to verify or correct this info.

Welcome to the House of Homelite! There is everything I know about dates listed on this page: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/6140/figuring-out-when-homelite-built#1 is an odd serial number, pre 1972 but that is about all I would say about that one. The T is for Terry but you already know that. #2 March 5, 1975, unit 453 that day. #3 February 27, 1984, unit 67 that day. There are others here who know more about Terry saws than me and they may have more to tell. Hang on, they will be along.

Well, oologahan responded while I was typing, you can see that there are differences of opinion sometimes. Dates can be tough, not a lot is for sure. I think he is right about #1's date. 50108 is the model number for the first model of the XL-76 the later model was model 50150. It is similar to the XL-123, I believe the second model XL-76 came out in around 1980 the earlier XL-76 came out toward the end of the XL-123 production after 1975

Thanks for the info, good to know there are people knowledgeable enough to retain the info required to keep these old saws operational. I will be checking these saws for proper operation fairly soon to see if they are restorable, physically in good shape all parts seem to be there. Nothing is locked up. Will have more questions later inquiring about parts and availability. Thanks again

I would tend to disagree with the date you came up with on this one Dan.He said it was blue & white which should put it pre 1973 or 1974.I think the "A" in the serial # denotes a "1",which should make it 1971.Pls correct me if I'm wrong. Ed

No, I think you are right, blue and white.
The AO however is not really part of the serial number, of that I am quite sure. I should have paid more attention, thanks for getting it right. Joyce's records have a couple of SXLs with serials in the 1098's at the end of 1971.

Interesting! As I said, it looked early '70's to me. I'll post pics here in a few. Now its my profile pic!
I've been going through it today, and managed to get it to fire up a couple of times today! Wouldn't stay on, so I may have a fuel pump problem...

If it's been sitting for awhile, chances are that you need to do a simple carb rebuild. We'll help you through that process if you need.

Thanks! It was well used in its day, lots or scuffs and wear, extremely dirty. I believe it was my grandfather's. It wasn't running when I got it, it had been in my Uncles garage for a number of years. The chain tensioner broke, I think that's why it wasn't being used. Going to look into it's past a bit more. I do have a few pics I would love to share. How do I upload pictures to this page?
