Looking at the Homelite IPL it shows a fuel pump diaphragm and gasket however on the Walbro site it shows fuel pump diaphragm, a check valve diaphragm and then the gasket. In other works it shows 3 pieces vs. 2 I rebuilt a carb earlier with no luck then saw this difference. I haven't tried it yet but that is my next step. Anyone know if it takes the three diaphragms?

Which saw & carb model are you talking about?

No. You only use one diaphragm. The kits come with more than one diaphragm, because they cover many models, and different types of fuels used.

i Have successfully rebuilt several Walbro SDC but now I have 2 that won’t pump. I looked at the Walbro site and saw that two of the diaphragms are different. I didn’t get a chance to try it as I got called back in to work (14 hrs later still here with no end in sight). Anyway I will try again when I get home whenever that may be. The two I am talking about are number 24 and 25 on Walbro Schematic. One does cover a hole in the other. www.walbro.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/SDCseries.pdf

It certainly looks like that extra diaphragm should be in there. I've never worked on an SDC before and never seen this configuration in any of the other Walbro carbs but it shows it there. Looked through the document expecting to see it as an option someplace but it isn't. Thought it was odd it's off to the side instead of directly in line like the others but looks like they did that just due to space. If the kit came with it, I'd say put it in & see what happens.

That pic on the walbro site is just a generic pic for all SDC carbs, but not all models use all parts.

It’s a Walbro SDC 62. I am starting to find where a lot of kits for these older carbs seem to have changes in them. I contacted Walbro and they are saying that the 62 does require that check valve diaphragm. I still have the old one at home if and when I get there I am going to check everything old vs new. I noticed too that the kit comes with two pump gaskets one thicker than the other. I wonder if they have changed something in the diaphragms to accommodate more carbs with the production of one kit? I’m wondering if the difference in the thickness of the gaskets equals the difference in using the check valve diaphragm vs not.

Even the tillotson kits I bought had varying contents I guess based on the supplier and age of the kit.

Kits on small engine carbs for my old garden tractors with Kohler, Walbro and Zenith carbs come with several extra parts to cover different versions of carbs used on different machines. I know this doesn't' answer your question, but on the XL-901 carb I rebuilt I used the manual I got from Leon's site and used the same number of gaskets and diaphragms. I did not know some of these were for use with different fuels, but we don't use any ethanol fuel around here.

I’ve had good luck up until this one. I just put them back like they came apart. The first one I used the layout I found on Leon’s but afterwards the others worked fine. This one may have some other issue as I put it aside before because of this but I figured I would try it again and so far this is all I have found. I will know more now though when I get my hands back on it. Oh umm everything I stated about all went well does NOT include tillotson 😬

I just rebuilt carb on a super Xl 12 and a super Xl 123 and can only get them to pop once and nothing more. Each time I pull on it it will pop then die. I replaced the atomizer as well. A full carb rebuild. Sounds like I am having some what of same issue. I have compression and spark.

Well if I can ever get home I’m going to try putting that check valve diaphragm in...right now doesn’t look like this robot wants me to go home

Ok this is once again a fine example of me not having any idea what I am doing or over complicating things or just plain not paying attention...or even all three. Anyway once I looked at the old diaphragm and the new parts I found what I was doing wrong. First is the old diaphragm does not have the big hole in it as the Teflon diaphragm in the new kit does. The old is on the far left, the new Teflon one is second, then the new rubber diaphragm is third and the gasket is fourth. The rubber diaphragm in the new kit does not have the hole and yes you guessed it I used the wrong one. I believe that they refer to it differently on walbro because it is different in more than just the material its made of. I guess the first two I rebuilt I got lucky on or paid more attention to what I was doing. Anyway the Zama carb kit was the same, one diaphragm, the Teflon one, had the big hole to match the gasket, the rubber diaphragm did not. Got both running good now just need some fine tuning on the Zama, but I put it on the shelf as a spare, it came out of a parts saw. Anyway thanks again for the patience and help I learned a lot on this one too. www.flickr.com/photos/138659658@N05/shares/3U44rS

Glad you figured it out! That's the one downside to the aftermarket or direct from the manufacturer kits...they fit multiple models and you've got to be careful to match everything up exactly. The Homelite branded kits were setup to be exactly what you need.

I started taking pictures with cell phone. but I'm sure I'll make the same kind of mistake in the future
