Those plastic barbs are a one shot wonder. The metal part on the carb is serrated for lack of a better term...this installs once in a given position. Once the barb is twisted at all, it cracks and leaks. If the crack isn't too bad, JB Weld works to put it back on and seal it up, but you've got to be damned careful with them. Crummy design in my opinion...I can't imagine they saved that much money doing it this way!

That was a Tilly, they also used Walbros on those saws too - WT42 & WT 108 if I remember correctly.I figured OK,I'll get a Walbro & put it on in it's place, but come to find out these two models are extinct.I did find a Tilly HU63A original carb for $72 plus $10 shipping - a little more than I wanted to spend.Good thing I had another carb from another saw that was in good shape.Whoever worked on that 290 had no idea what they were doing - the carb bolts were VERY loose, the high speed needle & spring were gone, the elbow was cracked & tied up with a wire, the adjustment grommet was missing.I also didn't like the way the fuel supply line to the carb looked -I think I should replace it,but I don't know what kind of a job it is.
