OK,who wants 540 parts?LOL Seriously,I'd like to try to get a piston for this girl, but as luck would have it 1.It's a Homelite - they've been out of business for quite some time now.2.There were 3 models that took the same piston - 540,545,& 8800.3.I've searched just about everywhere for a piston & I don't believe there are anymore available because they're in such high demand.Probably about the time I part the saw out I'll find a piston somewhere.I checked at Leon's store,he doesn't have one & I'm sure Joyce doesn't have one either.

There is DozerDude and many other Homelite sellers on eBay with a multitude of parts that appear from old stock all the time. I think you would be better off to rat hole the saw in the hopes of either finding another 540, or a 545 or 8800.

I'll keep looking Mike.If you don't mind, keep an eye out too. There are a lot of times that I'll miss something when I'm looking right at it.That's all due to my eye problems.A lot of times I'll have my son locate something that I've dropped because I just don't see it. As for a 545,I don't think we'll ever see one on Ebay.Up until just recently they were thought to be fictional, but another 540,or an 8800 might appear there.I'll keep an eye on my local Craig's List too.

540 pistons are quite rare but they do show up time to time. There not going to be cheap when to do show up. Your options in my opinion are
1. Wait till parts can be located to repair saw 2. Sell entire saw as a parts saw 3. Sell the parts individually
What you have in the saw and your patience will determine which options are best.

The gods have smiled upon me.Today I got a NEW PISTON & RINGS for the 540 at a cost of $56.It's NOS from an old dealer of Homelite & McCulloch parts. He's got TONS of parts.I've also got him looking for a new cylinder for my SXL-902.I haven't put the order in yet because he wants to send everything for me in one order,& my list keeps growing every time I work on another saw.

Wow!!! Does he have any more? Glad you found the parts. Be sure to inspect cylinder and remove any aluminum transfer.
