I got this Super 650 a few years ago (give or take) from a landscaping company. The original owner's son was selling it for him. His 83 year old father showed up who bought the saw started his company cutting processing firewood, He was very pleased that it was going to a collector. He started cutting firewood in the mid '50's using an IEL Pioneer DD. Slow as hell he said. He switched to MAC's but said he always had trouble getting them going so he switched to Pioneers. He said they performed well but the ding ding ding noise from the clutches when idling drove him nuts so he bought a few Xl-902 AM saws which he liked very much. When thousands of Elms were dying here from Dutch Elm disease the countryside looked pretty grim with all the dead standing elms and the Gov't offered the farmers $5 for each elm they had cut down. Many of them contacted him and told him if he cut them he could have the firewood. A lot of them were huge and the 902's with 28" bars just weren't up to it so he ordered the Super 650 from Homelite in Pointe Claire and they had it shipped up from the US, He said he thought he had died and gone to heaven. He split all that elm by hand. Tough old guy. We had a great time talking and I said that chain is about done for and he told his son to get the Oregon box on the shelf. There was a couple of hundred DL of the semi chisel chain spec'd by Homelite for the 650 in the owner's manual. The 43 inch bar takes 123 DL of .404. It ran well as I purchased it. A fun GTG saw

I love those stories, thanks for sharing it gives that 650 a heart. Actually I believe in some twisted way they all do, that's what makes it so cool to keep them going and pass the torch.
