I think even brand new the little starter balls would stick if the engine stopped in just the right spot!

Ah ok, I ended up getting the d009 mount and will just file the edges a bit as the mount is just a hair to small. Had another bar at the shop with that mount. Also gonna have to drill the oil holes on the opposite sides. The D009 mount is nearly the same as the D196 mount. I don’t believe the tail is wide enough to even drill for the oil holes.

WELL......the running advantage was shortly lived gents. C-clip came out of the piston while the saw was running and damaged the hell out of the top end. Wrist pin slid over and scored the side of the cylinder and actually Broke one of the side ports. On the search for a piston and cylinder again.

How fast was it running when it happened? ( idle, full throttle?)

Yeah, it's all good....already found a new oem piston with New pins and c-clips. Cylinder is gonna be the hard one. Hoping my boss has another spare saw for parts. Getting pretty good at tearing these things apart though. haha

Oh no. Sorry to hear that. Any clue what caused it to happen? Dan C-clip on the side of the piston popped out and the wrist pin slide over. Sure seemed fine when I check it out. Guess looks can be deceiving!

Think the clip was weak... maybe not seated..... some kinda burr on the piston's groove............ I get OCD over these kinda things until I figured out why it happened.

I'm thinking weak....it was a 50 year old piston, wrist pin, and clips....only thing was new rings. Should have done new clips. Live and learn.

Got a new piston, pin, and clips on order. Once the Christmas craziness is over I'm gonna try and head to Leon's and pick up some parts. You still have 770 piston rings in your stock Leon?

My model 2000 seems to show a plug that goes over the C clips, not sure if I am correct on this. Anyone know anything about the plugs? My single cylinder garden tractors share some similarities in that it is not recommended to replace rings without also replacing connecting rod, wrist pin and C clips. Theses aluminum rods have no bearing so to speak and new rings will increase pressure on old and fatigued parts which is a recipe for disaster.

Those are called Rulon plugs. Not sure if Homelite used them on any model other than the 2000. They were used instead of clips. Looks like another experimentation that Homelite tried but it didn't really catch on. Neat idea, you just place the plug over the end of the wrist pin, no tools needed.
