I'm looking for a DM40 crank and rid assembly. The bottom rod bearing came apart. A crankcase and cylinder gasket would be good too.

I've got the DM's listed under the "lawn equipment" tab on the parts diagram page. I need to come up with a better name!

Hmm, never saw that header. Gotta get my eyes checked.
How about moving it right a couple of spots next to the chainsaws and call it "Other Homelite Equipment IPLs"?

I renamed the tab, but that is one of the least user friendly features of the editing tool from Weebly (my provider). I can't actually move the tab without manually moving each file one at a time...can't say that's gonna happen anytime soon!

Thanks for the IPL links and the link to the crankcase on eBay. I thought it was a bit spendy too. Is it possible to have a machine shop press out the crank journal so a guy could find a bearing or is it permanently in there?

It's meant to be replaced as a unit, as individual parts are not available. As for trying to service it anyway, you would have to take it to a machine shop to see if it's even possible. It is pressed together.

Since the DM40 is derived from the 410 chainsaw, is the crank the same? 410 parts seem to be a lot easier to find.

Since the DM40 is derived from the 410 chainsaw, is the crank the same? 410 parts seem to be a lot easier to find. That is a good point...the overall dimensions are the same, so any differences due to the automatic oil pump (or lack of on a DM) would be negligible. In fact you could use an entire crankcase from a 410 and just abandon the oil features. It all depends on how original a person wants the unit to be: functionality or showpiece? Splitting the crankcase and getting it resealed would be a pain in the butt, but doable if a 410 crankshaft was sourced.

That's excellent news! I'll pick up a 410 crank and put it in the DM 40 case. At this point my saw is a worker. The bearing went about three years ago and I've been searching off and on since...
